Thanks Ulysees E. McGill.
I am starting to agree. A good friend of mine put his Dad on hospice yesterday and he passed away this morning.
We had 12 people going to drive to Moab, Utah this past Friday for a well needed vacation. The turn for the worse of my father-in-law canceled the trip, my friend and his family were part of the trip. He would have been in Utah when his Dad passed if we had gone. He is the only child and Stepmom had passed away two years ago. It would have been awful.
This stupid virus is the nanny state overlords wet dream..just bad enough to frighten millions into easily and eagerly giving up their blood bought freedom.I took that as sarcasm. The virus has no sense of humor. It will hunt you down and kill you if it finds out that you are making fun of it...
Yessir, me too.Same. Father left when I was five. I've missed lots of sports going to my daughter's dance competitions. I would not trade that for anything on this Earth.
Yessir, sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences. My FiL passed away two weeks ago, the man was one of my heroes. He had more integrity than anyone I have ever known. My wife just got home last night from Alabama, she has been there helping her mother with everything. We have had this two week trip to the three southern Colorado and..ironically..two Moab area National Parks planned for a couple of months..I am so glad we were not out there camping on the middle of the San Juans and Sangre de Cristos with no cell service when he rapidly declined and passed away..my wife would have completely lost it.
Edit: Sorry for the choppy response, I just had a bunch of random thoughts..
Saw someone posted the Jancek firing quote. Holy shee*. What a boss. Shoulda kept Jancek and booted Butch.Don't know if this has been posted but....
Former Vol Chris Weatherd Interview About The Butch Jones Era [Explicit]
Indeed. It's interesting thinking about the psychology of these guys after they're done playing. So much of their identity is wrapped up in being a football player that I imagine it much be a struggle when they're out of the game.
Can’t like this enough!! Although I have never met many of you, I have a deep respect and appreciation for many regulars on this board, that comes from so many different angles. It’s crazy how it seems like you know people fairly well, yet have never met them.Same here.
Fellow VN posters - kids need their fathers in their lives no matter how things are at home or with ex's. Stand in the gap for your kids.
I’ve been saying I think they’ll be way overrated this season. They’ll still be a good team no doubt but I think they’ll take a big step back Given what this linked post points out with big name recruits not living up to the hype and the attrition to the NFL/transfers last year.
Some were counting on landing one of those unproven transfer QBs as a surefire ticket to Atlanta for the Vols.I’ve been saying I think they’ll be way overrated this season. They’re replacing 4 starting O lineman, Deandre Swift, and their QB which the QB spot has big question marks. They’re relying on two unproven QB transfers in a new offense too. In Kirby’s first year of fielding a roster of purely his recruits he has some big holes to fill. They play Bama this year on the road too. I see them going 8-4, 9-3 losing to Bama, Barn, Florida, and maybe us. It’s the first time since 2016 I feel like we’re good enough to win that game on paper. Kirbs abilities to be a game time coach are going to be tested properly since he can’t try to out athlete everyone this year.
My Father-in-law lost his battle. He went peacefully with loved ones in attendance. I believe that he is in a better place. No longer hurting snd able to walk again. As gruff as he could be, he will still be missed.
My all time favorite experience with him:
My in-laws came to visit in the Fall, shortly after we moved to Knoxville. He and I went to play golf. It sprinkled on us through the first 15 holes. It started raining harder on the 16th hole. Players were leaving the course. He asked if I wanted to finish the round, of course I did (no lightning). It was raining so hard by the 18th hole that we could barely see the golf balls. We finished and were totally soaked.
We get back to my house, get showered and dry. Then my wife asks if I still plan to go to Neyland to the football game? I say of course, Tennessee is going to beat Georgia. Wouldn’t miss it. She looks to her Dad. His response was what the hell, why not! I gave hime an Orange and White poncho that was really long (I am 6’ tall) it barely passed his knees at 6’7”.
We stayed for the whole game. Tennessee crushed Georgia 38-13 before 106K screaming Volunteers.
He told the story of that day repeatedly over the years. He always ended it with the statement: “The driest that I was that day was while I was taking a shower!” Then he and I would laugh because that was true.
I will miss Big Jim.
Thank y’all very much for your prayers.
