JG’s Growth at QB

It's actually become quite laughable. I truly hope it's just a schtick and he is a troll. I really hope there is no one that illogical in regards to their reasoning. And the fact his buddy K-Town does the exact same thing makes me believe it's just an act. I hope anyways.

Surely there can't be two people that absurd in their reasoning ability.
They believe in JG and I respect that. It’s the way they go about it that I don’t respect. I feel a true fan of a TEAM wants what’s best for that TEAM and in their minds they have to criticize one to love another. That makes me question if it’s about the Vols or is it about them.

In their minds if you point out any flaw you are a hater. But they will then spew cherry picked stats to insult Maurer or Shrout and then do the same to build up JG.

There is not rationale with them. We as fans get frustrated that JG continues to play. Granted, he had some decent games and lit up Mizzou. TN may not win vs Kentucky without him. But overall, it's mediocrity. They think it's he's the second coming of Peyton.

I’m one of their biggest rivals on this board and I very rarely talk about JGs short comings. So you don’t have to point out anything really. All you have to do is support someone that they or most don’t.

And you’re right TN may not have beaten UK without JG. However the key word in that statement is MAY. If you accept truth Maurer looked bad for all of 2 series and started getting noticeably better. So it’s hard to say that with any confidence that Maurer wouldn’t have done the same or better in the second half. Which they will both guarantee that we don’t win with Maurer.

JG is the best qb. So he is best for the team.

You are a BM fan, not a UT fan. You want what is best for BM damn the team. You would rather go 5-7 with BM than 8-4 with JG if that makes BM better in two or three years. I'm not willing to sacrifice the team for the guy who probably isn't even next in line after JG.

The rest of you I don't have the time or energy to respond to. There is no need to debate the same things you all keep being wrong about.

These are facts that can't be debated. JG was the best qb on the roster last year. JG was a top half of the SEC qb last year. No need to debate people with an agenda and no data to back up their arguments.

Yep..... keep trying big guy.

Many think so but no. K town makes things up as he goes and tries to speak lies into existence. Pulaski is hypocritical in his statements as if he doesn’t remember his previous arguments are often the same as his defenses.
No response to being willing to sacrifice UT wins for BM development?

Thought so

Dude..... it’s as simple as this. JG has flaws just as any other QB in history at any level. That’s why there’s a thing called “good or bad ‘fit’” for every qb and the TEAM they go to. It’s not that JG is/was a bad qb. His style just hasn’t “fit” with the teams abilities thus far. Where JG falls short BM excels. Ability to escape, speed, accuracy, quick decisions and the ability to FEEL pressure. There is now 3 years of evidence that shows he’s likely to never improve in those areas. Where BM falls short is experience and decision making. Some of you are too busy thinking that I’m pushing Maurer because I know the kid. When the truth is his skill set is just simply a better fit for the TEAM if the only invested the TIME and coached him to make better decisions which naturally happens anyway over time spent in a system.

Right on time to prove everyone's point. Did Pulaski call you, text you or nudge when you woke up to come on here and post?

He is a better fit as evidenced by the results. You can speculate and make up theoretical strengths all day about BM. We all saw hw doesn't have them now.

So you are pretty much admitting that you will sacrifice UT wins for his development. You aren't a UT fan.

Why wast development time on a probable career backup or transfer? JG is still a better choice than BM. HB may be as well.

Jg isn't perfect. He is currently way better than BM.

What "results" are you referring to?

UT is 7-15 with JG as a starter.

In 2019 JG was tied for 68th in the nation in passing TDs.

In 2019 JG was responsible for less PPG than our own kicker.

In 2019 Tennessee's passing offense was 75th in the nation.

In 2019 Tennessee was 97th in first down offense.

In 2019 Tennessee was 98th in scoring offense.

In 2019 Tennessee was 92nd in red zone offense.

So do tell, where is this evidence you speak of?

Imagine how regressed JG is going to be if this season doesn't happen and he has zero coaching under Chaney for almost an entire year..

You need to stop with the “sacrificing wins for BMs development” when the last 3 years the team has done just that by playing JG. His record speaks for itself. You can’t use that argument in favor of a qb that’s below .500 for the sole reasons that I stated above that he lacks that others don’t. It’s not an intentional knock on him, it’s just the truth. BMs skill set is more equipped to handle a team with bad o line play because of his ability to make fast decisions and his ability to escape and out run defenses.

Ok Bm was part of those bad numbers. If JG played the whole year we are better in every category. BM drug down the team rankings.

Show me where BM did better over any extended period. Even one whole game of consistent play. Show me where he would have improved those team numbers.

How is playing the best qb sacrificing wins? The team wasn't good.

Playing Bm would lead to more losses.

So now BM dragged down the numbers for 2019, that's your new defense of JG's poor play?

You want me to give you a breakdown of JG's playing time VS Maur's playing time in 2019 for you?

You really believe that a RS JR who was anointed starter without a competition, and given the majority of first team reps and development in the spring and summer, should have the same standards and expectations, as a true freshman, who didn't even get trash time prior to starting because that RS JR couldn't play well enough to get off of the field?

Or it could’ve lead to more wins if they had prepared him. That’s the point...... neither of you KNOW anything. You can only speculate and your bias gets in the way of rational comparison. And by comparison BM was better vs better teams that they both played a significant role. So by that fact it would prove your theory wrong that BM “drug down” the team. In fact it may be just the opposite. You should probably pull a Houdini right about now.

Please do. @whodeycin85 I believe has tried to do the same and it’s entertaining to see him back pedal.

I think it is safe to say, judging from what we have seen, on Saturdays, JG is a better option, or was, than Brian Mauer.
As far as Shrout goes........who knows?
But, I think they'll all be watching HB, from the bench, eventually.

That’s the point some are missing. No one is debating who the better option was. Of course it was who they invested the time in, which was JG. However that by no means means JG is or was the “better” qb in terms of skill and THATS where the disconnect is.

None of them were good options. In my opinion. Mauer and Shrout were not ready, obviously. JG was a better game-manager, due to his knowledge of the offense, and his bond with the receivers.

I agree. Maurer was not ready. Shrout was less ready. But if we faced the truth and accepted it Maurer was thrown to the wolves and found success (although limited) on raw talent. That was a coaching fail imo. He showed he was a step ahead of JG in the spring game and again within the season in terms of pocket awareness, escapability, accuracy and speed of decisions. JG was a step ahead in experience and decision making. If the team has suffered in the recent past due to qb play and those are the areas said qb has the most trouble, why would you not hold a competition? Why would you not even care to be prepared if your more experienced qb went down? That makes absolutely no sense to me.

Watching a replay of Indiana vs Tenn. 3rd
quarter.JG thrown 2 interceptions score
16 -6 Indy. Mauer in game now

Couldn't watch whole game but in my opinion
Mauer had better control of the game granted he threw into traffic but freshman's make mistakes overall I think he did better and that's just a layman's opinion.
