Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Yeah, I mean I have to agree with you... requiring citizens to (GASP!) wear a mask in public during a global pandemic is absolutely CRAZY!!!

The next thing you know, states will mandate that we have to wear seatbelts! Or even worse, make it illegal to drink and drive!!!

HOW DARE THEY!?!?

PLEASE DON'T LET OUR RIGHTS BE TRAMPLED BY FASCIST DEMOCRATS!

Show 'em that our rights are more important than anyone else's! Get out there, go to Walmart, don't wear a mask, and start sneezing. Sneeze like your life (and more importantly, our rights) depend on it, man!

Where in the US can you point to that wearing a mask has had any effect?

Also, What demographic isn't wearing mask?

Nope, wrong again. The "side" you think I am on was simply saying that keeping everything closed based on any of these numbers was stupid. Most reasonable people agreed with the shutdown in the beginning until we knew what we were dealing with. We reached a point months ago, however, where it clearly isn't needed. Hell, the testing isn't even accurate, hospitals were never overrun, mass amounts of people weren't never refused care, and we know death numbers are inflated. This is pure political theater.

No, that's just what you have been screeching because you bought into the politics from that side. The Open the economy up, it's not that bad, because we need to eat out, gather in larger groups, not social distance, and not wear a mask side.

lol, I guess when you say you guys you mean both sides. Now that HHS is in charge of the numbers, I'm sure they will be solid numbers, right?
Nope.... they will still be politicized on Botha and completely useless numbers.

nope, still fake numbers. It's a global conspiracy against donald.....even when people they know get it and die....it's not real. They are all crisis actors.

The 1918 Flu killed 500 million people worldwide and almost 700K in the U.S. We aren't even going to sniff those numbers without some serious manipulation of the data.

This is a new virus that makes some people sick some of the time and is one of any number of things that kill old and susceptible people. If it were killing all kind of people in droves then you have a point. But the simple truth is it isn't. It isn't even taxing the hospital system, not even in NY. The MSM and fear peddlers should be ashamed of themselves here.

First, your numbers are wrong. The Spanish Flu killed roughly 50 million worldwide including somewhere between 500K-850K Americans.

Second, this is a novel virus. We don't know exactly what it does, how it operates, and the LT effects of having the virus even if you're assymptomatic.

Third, to make a blanket statement that it "isn't even tasking the hospital system" is either pure ignorance or willful deception on your part. See: Florida, Texas, Arizona.

Lastly, viruses mutate. While this one currently appears dangerous primarily to older folks and those with pre-existing conditions, that could change on a dime.

Look, you're welcome to listen to politicians all you want. As for me, I'll stick with scientists.

It’s real but it is being manipulated.... how can you look at the evidence out there and not feel that it is being manipulated.

You should know enough by now to make informed decisions about your own actions. It's not like .09% change either way should guide an individual at this point.

Wrong. You are so far dug in on the left side of the spectrum that anything that is different is automatically right wing Trumpism.

I’m saying the data is cloudy at best, testing accuracy isn’t close to where it needs to be, and by all accounts statistically and anecdotally the healthy 60 and under crowd handles this better than the Flu. So, WTF are we doing here? The working population needs to get back to work and the MSM needs to stop with these silly daily positive graphs. Reality is simply not matching the narrative and it isn’t close.

The left has been consistent with reporting cases and deaths throughout this whole thing using the best available data. The data point to best practices of wearing a mask, social distancing in public, and avoiding crowds.

We know at this point what it does and how it operates. Absolutely we do. Hell, we are close to a vaccine.

Please post any data from those states that show someone who needs a hospital bed isn’t getting one. There hasn’t been a single death because somebody couldn’t get care.

Viruses mutate? No kidding. The Flu does every year. So what. It hasn’t yet, and if it does, then we can shutdown. Until then, again, wtf are we doing here?

It doesn’t point to shutdowns, not even close. Don’t move the goalposts. I have no issue with social distancing and masks.

CDC calls on Americans to wear masks to prevent COVID-19 spread
JAMA editorial reviews latest science, while case study shows masks prevented COVID

Americans are increasingly adopting the use of cloth face masks to slow the spread of COVID-19, and the latest science may convince even more to do so.

In an editorial published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), CDC reviewed the latest science and affirms that cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when used universally within communities. There is increasing evidence that cloth face coverings help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.

“We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” said CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.”

This review included two case studies out today, one from JAMA, showing that adherence to universal masking policies reduced SARS-CoV-2 transmission within a Boston hospital system, and one from CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), showing that wearing a mask prevented the spread of infection from two hair stylists to their customers in Missouri.

As for the demographic that isn't wearing masks, they'd fall under the category "stupid" and/or "inconsiderate".

I guessing you don't get out much. From what I have seen it is mainly men and women between the ages of 20-30ish. Hardly a Trump stronghold wouldn't you say.

I see more people of all ages not wearing masks in public than I do people wearing masks. I live in a Trump stronghold that has a mask mandate.

I have been..... I wear a mask when a business requires..... sometimes choose not to if they don’t..... I live my life almost as normal as I can..... the last five weeks..... I have been to the beach..... swimming in the public pool in town..... a water park( really more like a fancy pool), swam in the river..... went on a hike.... went to 3 outlet malls and one regular mall.... and 3 baseball games..... my son plays again tonight...... I do these things bc the info being shared in my community does not match the info that I have access too so I don’t believe a lot of the hype..... I would like to know real info so I can make informed decisions..... I don’t rely on the government to make decisions for me.

I live in a heavy minority area and mask wearing is probably around 60%..... There are several white people and just as many if not more minorities not wearing masks..... maybe trump is carrying more of the minority vote than I thought lol

Do you see the irony in throwing out a percentage with only observational data while condemning such things?

A mutation in COVID likely isn’t going to be a more fatal mutation, but the concern is of a possibility that the mutation stunts progress in the vaccine. And of course an increase in the virus in our population only furthers the opportunity of a mutation. Of course there is no certainty of what happens.

Then you don't get out much. At least Monty puts the demographic as stupid or inconsiderate, but you think that they have to be the evil orange mans minions. That man owns you. Its sad really.

I’m a random guy on a message board discussing what we are seeing..... Do you not expect more from the medical experts than random people on a message board.....

Really, that is my main point. Couple that with mutations or whatever haven't actually happened, and I think any shutdowns at this point are the quintessential "solution is worse than the problem".
