Supporters of US President Donald Trump wave flags on a road in Keystone, South Dakota, on July 3
Thomas Jefferson believed in a free press. Jefferson viewed a free press as an essential check on governmental power, and the corruption that too much centralized authority can lead to. Since taking office, Donald Trump has attempted to place limitations on the freedoms of the press, and he has aggressively sought to suppress free speech, whenever this speech is critical of him, including a book authored by his own niece, Mary Trump. Also, Donald Trump has taken vindictive action against the owner (Jeff Bezos) of a newspaper (The Washington Post) which has been critical of him. Suffice to say, Thomas Jefferson did not consider the press to be the "enemy of the people". Only corrupt politicians, such as Richard Nixon and Donald Trump, think that way.As a liberal I’d be extremely selective when quoting Jefferson , if I were you . I see that you were .

I assume that you remember that during President Donald Trump's first two years in office, from January of 2017 until January of 2019, there was a Republican President, with both a Republican majority in the House of Representatives (the Speaker of the House was Paul Ryan), and a Republican majority in the Senate (the Senate Majority Leader was Mitch McConnell). This ad begs a few questions: If something needed to be fixed, why wasn't it fixed during those first two years? Why should the American people think the next 4 years would be any different than those first two? After all, if Republicans do regain control of the Senate, that just means that the next Senate Majority Leader would be Sen. Mitch McConnell, who has been a member of the United States Senate for 35 years - that is only 3 years less than Sen. Chuck Schumer and 3 years longer than Nancy Pelosi.
