You are correct. The most capable leaders in this country (Founders/CEO's, Entrepreneurs/Business Innovators, Military leaders, Scientists/Engineers) have no interest in running for office, primarily because it would mean a huge decrease in income for them, but running for office also comes with public scrutiny into the private life of the candidates and most of them don't want to put themselves and their families through that... especially the ones who have young children or who have been through a divorce, which would include most of them. So, we are mostly left with career politicians, who got into politics not for public service, but as a means of self-enrichment and a career livelihood. Trump is an exception to this, but since he conducts himself in a manner very similar to career politicians, it hasn't made a difference.
I agree with everything you said with the exception that Trump conducts himself like a career politician. He doesn't and that is why he is hated. He is also doing this pro bono and donating "all" of his salary. This is unheard of. No, he is not the personality we all have gotten used to but that doesn't mean you can't compartmentalize the good and the bad. We should all be a little tired of Washington while also recognizing we need someone who is used to dealing with the world stage. Wouldn't you want a coach that stands up for UT or one that is SEC or even Big Ten first. Maybe I'm oversimplifying this. If you have a liberal ideology and is voting Democrat every election regardless of the person then nevermind.
I will say if I'm Trump, then I say to hell with this job and I never run in 2016 especially in my 70's. I just think he is doing it for a greater cause. I can see a career politician like Bernie and Joe doing it because this is something they've dreamed about even as multi-failures. They are part of the swamp and has gotten Supreme Court treatment along with other multi-decade legislators.
