Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

WTH is Tn material? Work like heck, dad gummit, the clapper, gonna look at the film, play your upperclassmen not the best players on the team, UT material?
If played tonite, TT 77 UT 10. Thats considering UT forces 2 fumbles inside the TT 10 yard line and Lincoln actualy makes a FG. Yeah I'd hate to see that kind of coach here. Psssst did you here he has a pirate fetish. Sure that wont set well with the blue blood donors.
I'd say people shilling for a guy who has never been on a staff at the D-I level that lost fewer than 3 games doesn't sit well with donors who are paying attention.

Yes, I like him, But it seems to me that a lot of people in Volnation think that he is a clown and a bad coach. Perhaps the big donors think the same way? I do not know, but I would love to see him at UT, the odds of that becoming reality are pretty small.
But I can dream. :peace2:

People would forgive the clown part; it's the bad coach part that he can't overcome.

UT is not trying to donate its money to charity with this hire.

Any year but this one, Leach wouldn't even be on the radar screen. That fact bothers me a little.

That fact bothers me a lot.

Ever year some team in CFB does better than anyone expected and then fads back into what they were (see Rutgers a few years ago). TTech is the Rutgers of the 2008 season. If they keep winning, they're going to get what's coming to them. Either againt OU, in the Big 12 CG, or when they play the SEC Champs for the NC.

Don't know if the Big 12 teams can do it, but I'm confident that UF or Bama will shut that offense down. UF will hang 70 on that defense. Bama not that much, but plenty.

Whatever happens this year, they go back to the 3-5 loss team that Leach has had for the rest of his career.

Fan reaction... as if the athletic department isn't aware of VN and doesn't monitor it. That's interesting that they'd feel they need to go this far.

Having Leach's name out there as a possibility damages our ability to attract a real coach. That's bad strategy. I don't think that's what's going on in this case.

If you float a name, float a good one to help improve the effort and not a bad one that drags it down.

Definitely see your take...thing is, who wants who and for what reason?.....either way, people will moan....no one will like so and so, others will......doesn't matter till they get on "The Hill" and show their stuff.....

Can we just get Gruden PLEASE???

A better way to evaluate the flavor of the year coach is his track record. If you look at it mike leach isn't the guy for tennessee.

In reading posts here, the AD has to be smart enough to figure out what is reason and what is emotion. It's not that hard.

Great point. I added a statement somewhat related just before you quoted me. I totally agree with you.

Hiring Leach would be a 'settle' hire. We can do much better and I fear that Leach is the flavor of the month who will flame out in his next job. I don't want that job to be at UT.

I would take Leach over what we have seen here the last 4 years in a heartbeat. Am i saying he's the answer? No, but a hell of an improvement. Given the facilaties and the way he can recruite out of Tx, the way he can develope talent. That and bringing in a great D staff. stands would be full, no more free or sub face tickets at home before gameday. IMO not a bad call. Big 12 not an easy place to play either, regarding "who has never been on a staff at the D-I level that lost fewer than 3 games" comment.

That fact bothers me a lot. Every year some team in CFB does better than anyone expected and then fades back into what they were (see Rutgers a few years ago). Me too. Never heard of Leach before this year.

Agreed. However...

Put Leach in the SEC, with the draw that UT can make to recruits, and I think his offense gets better. If he can find a DC that can scheme the SEC, who knows?

I'm not a Leach fan, and I think Kiffin is a safer risk, but there's no arguing what Leach did once he found the talent.

And I think it's probably UF -vs- TTU for the NC.

Go Vols.

I totally agree. Seriously, how many coaches would've had to say "no" before they got to Leach?

And every single one of you would be kissing his rear if he came here and Tennessee was back in the BCS. Just know that you are in the minority.

For what it's worth, Gerald Jones supposedly has a friend at Texas Tech and he told him that he thinks Leach has interviewed. Heard that one on the radio today so who knows. I don't care who we get, as long as he's successful and doesn't roll up in a ball and start sucking his thumb when he sees orange and blue or crimson and white lined up across the field from him. Many of you seem to have a personal problem with Leach. If you honestly think his name hasn't been brought up before this season, you've been living under a rock. It only seems like it's just this year, because we're looking for a coach and we're paying more attention. The comments that "he's not Tennessee material, he's too quirky, he talks and acts stupid", all of that is rediculous. When the lights are on, he's all business. Again, watch more games other than just Tennessee games and find the flaw in his coaching. "He hasn't won more than 9 games in one season ever". Nine wins would sure feel good right about now wouldn't it?

He can't convince good Texas football players to go to Lubbock. He's not going to convince them to come to Knoxville. Anyone touting recruiting ability as a positive for Leach is flat out wrong.

Agreed that is gonna be a fun game to watch.
