I've said this so many times, I'm tired of repeating myself. HCQ does not work by itself. It's likely only effective when used as part of a cocktail along with Zinc and a Z-pack. After awhile I get the impression that studies like this continue just so misinformation can be spread. Seeing as this was done by Vanderbilt, that's not surprising. They still think Jay Culter was a good QB

In summary: you can do 1000 studies that show HCQ alone are ineffective but it means zero scientifically as to whether a cocktail of HCQ+Z-pack+Zinc is effective. One more thing: Trump took the cocktail, not HCQ alone

Let's go back a bit.

You are citing a case fatality rate of 5.4%, and then saying "if you are infected, you have a 5.4% mortality rate." That is a basic conflation of CASE fatality rate and INFECTION fatality rate. They are fundamentally different unless you are measuring (cases are measured infection) EVERY infection. the upper limit of the iFR is the CFR.

Furthermore, the 0.1% for flu is a SYMPTOMATIC fatality rate (the portion of infections that become symptomatic). This is what the CDC material makes clear if you read it. If someone casually refers to it as something other than the sFR, they are technically incorrect. You can take the same official CDC numbers and calculate the flu CASE fatality rate and see that it was 4% last year. That's a meaningless number, but that is what it was.

And in most discussions, that technicality isn't all that important. But, in this discussion - it is critically important. Because we are comparing numbers between diseases....and in one case taking the sFR and the other taking the CFR (which is higher than both the iFR and the sFR). Eventually we'll be able to model out CV19 and get a better estimate on its true iFR. Antibody testing is a good route to that. And from the early work, it seems like the number will end up being around 0.3%.

Please continue this dialogue because you are making some mistakes in your interpretation. I'm sure of it. I don't know if they are purposeful or not. But, I'd love to iron them out.

Which is sad that the Republican party didn't put up a second candidate. All trump would've had to do was say no to a second term, and there couldn't be any questions about a lack of trust in him

I've heard Trump many times bragging about how we lead the world in testing. That's not consistent with a guy who minimizes testing

The impression I get of Travis is that he is a guy who understood his SEC sports blog wasn't great and figured out most of his followers were 25-50 year old right-wingers dying for a sports media figure to agree with them. His isn't a liberal, he isn't a conservative, he's just a part of the outrage-industrial complex.

NGV and I have been on a little road trip . I can tell you without one shred of doubt that if I wasn’t convinced of the overreaction before yesterday and today .. I am 100% sold on it now . We brought masks and I not only have yet to put one on ( I’ve asked do we need one to come inside and was told no ) there not a single person wearing them in any place we’ve stopped at so far in 4 different state . We will go to our 5th state tomorrow . After this trip, I’ll not ever buy into the panic and fear peddling . EVER!

Maybe in NYC where fear is welcomed . Its no surprise where I stand on the media and politicians pushing this but I was prepared to have to put on a mask to be able to do business , it really has shocked me that we haven’t seen but two people with a mask one was a Pilot cashier , the other was his area manager. He’s the one that told us not to worry about the masks . ( Kentucky I believe ) we will have to wear a mask tomorrow I’m sure ... Michigan .
