2020 Presidential Race

It was a weird situation with the voting machines/system/policy because at first everyone was questioning the city about it. But then some elected state republican also weighed in on the system and then the city closed ranks and I am pretty sure nothing happened afterwards.

Not sure who to blame for the Covid stuff though with the number of people/places. But I am glad to see we went straight partisan on that issue too. I am not for the shut down, but I also believe you cant mandate people to not be shut down. But it's the governments job to provide for the elections/voting. Not sure how to feel about that aspect.

The government should only provide places and working/secure voting machines. Nothing else, if you want to vote get to a polling place.

Yes, the Republican mantra: less voting is good, so place as many hurdles as you can get away with to it happening.

Dems mantra .. let’s lead all these cities , let’s put all the laws and ordinances on the books and when people complain .. let’s blame the Republicans. Smh

Imo this particular problem was due to the Covid over reaction. Or at least a good chunk of it was. We can always find some more specific blame for the rest of our elected officials stupid choices.

I’m not sure what the answer is for how to keep voter registrations the most accurate, but under the current procedure, it literally takes a minimum of 7 years of inactivity and ignoring notifications to get your voter registration revoked. It’s not like they’re throwing registrations in a trash can or something.
I can tell you what one answer should be: A candidate in any election should NEVER also have the responsibility of purging voter registration rolls for that same election, as was the case with Brian Kemp and his run for governor, in that post you replied to. Kemp should have recused himself from his duties as the Secretary of State while running for the governor of Georgia. That was an obvious conflict of interest.

Every elected official should.

They're almost as bad as they were when he won in 2016. This is getting catastrophic.
I know you guys don't like polls (or at least, you don't like them when they reflect something poorly on a Republican Party candidate. They have a way of being posted here, whenever they reflect something positive.), but the current polls on realclearpolitics.com are a horror show for Trump.

President Donald Trump Job Approval Ratings taken from 5/25 - 6/9:

Real Clear Politics (RCP) Average .... (42.2% Approve - 54.9% Disapprove)

YouGov .... 6/7 - 6/9 .... (43% Approve - 56% Disapprove)
Rasmussen Reports .... 6/7 - 6/9 .... (44% Approve - 55% Disapprove)
Politico .... 6/6 - 6/7 .... (39% Approve - 58% Disapprove)
CNN .... 6/2 - 6/5 .... (40% Approve - 57% Disapprove)
The Hill .... 6/1 - 6/4 .... (44% Approve - 56% Disapprove)
NPR/PBS .... 6/2 - 6/3 .... (42% Approve - 55% Disapprove)
Emerson .... 6/2 - 6/3 .... (43% Approve - 50% Disapprove)
IBD/TIPP .... 5/31 - 6/3 .... (42% Approve - 53% Disapprove)
Gallup .... 5/28 - 6/4 .... (39% Approve - 57% Disapprove)
Reuters .... 6/1 - 6/2 .... (40% Approve - 57% Disapprove)
CBS News .... 5/29 - 6/2 .... (40% Approve - 54% Disapprove)
NBC/WSJ .... 5/28 - 6/2 .... (45% Approve - 53% Disapprove)
Monmouth .... 5/28 - 6/1 .... (43% Approve - 54% Disapprove)
CNBC .... 5/29 - 5/31 .... (44% Approve - 56% Disapprove)
ABC/WP .... 5/25 - 5/28 .... (45% Approve - 53% Disapprove)

This is a large sample size of 15 polls, and it includes polls such as Rasmussen Reports and The Hill/HarrisX which are known to lean to the right. They all show the same thing. Trump's numbers are tanking. I would take note of where Gallup and Politico currently have him - below 40%. There is no way Trump wins re-election with numbers like this. He still has almost 5 months... but it's not looking good at the moment.

His approval rating has pretty much stayed in a range 42-45 that I can remember, through the entirety of his term.

He did get a so-called "rally around the flag" bump of about 5 points in late March and early April, in the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, but it sure faded fast. It's completely gone now.

Should have to give up their job if running for another.

They have a stick and a carrot they can weild unequally. Atop your states DoE department, you can lean on the teachers, justice has the cops and ADs.

Voting may be the most direct, but any elected official is going to have clout they can throw around to influence the election.

I tend to think that it will be Sen. Kamala Harris at this point, but Florida Rep. Val Demings (10th District) has an interesting resume and would be an intriguing choice. From 2007 to 2011, she was the Chief of the Orlando Police Department, capping a 27 year career on the force. She was also tapped by Nancy Pelosi to be an impeachment manager in the Senate Trial of Donald Trump in January. She has a bachelor's degree in criminology and a master's degree in public administration. She is not a radical leftist or a career politician, and could only help in Florida. Having her on the ticket, would serve as a stop-gap to Trump's "the Dems want to de-fund the police" nonsense. She would bring credibility to the current national discourse taking place on the treatment of blacks by law enforcement.

Would anyone like to discuss the fact that Trump is threatening to pull federal funding from any state that allows mail in voting and tell me that isnt voter suppression? I'm all ears

The irony of it all, is that Trump votes by mail. Is he going to pull federal funding away from Florida too? Trump is such a clown. He makes these hollow threats without any sense of self-awareness at all. He is a blow-hard.
