Probably would need to start like July 3rd and get a 76 game season done by September 27th so this is gonna have to move quick.

Wait 75% prorated salary actually means that they would get paid 75% salary for 76 games correct? Maybe not as fair as I thought originally.

But players got to understand the situation too.

Yeah... I don’t think you’d love it if you had a guaranteed deal for $20 million next year and are now looking at making about 35% of that if there’s a postseason and less if there’s not. Effectively the owners are offering to pay the players for 57 games- which isn’t far off the 50 game thing that they leaked last week. I’m sure they’llkick the number back and forth, but I’m not sure that offer really moves the needle much.

The owners and players have no clue what they are doing to their sport. It’s not just about “a year without baseball” it’s how bad this is going to look with everyone in this country having to make sacrifices and 25M+ that have been on unemployment during this. Just like the strike, only worse. And it’s not like the sport can afford this. It’s already struggling. You wanna be NHL relevant and a be a local/niche sport this is how you do it.

Hell if you’re gonna do some sorta half-assed 50 games season might as well do a 30 team round robin or pool play playoff or something and make it interesting.

And I get what you’re saying. But at the same time, the NBA or NH isn’t prorating salaries nor was it ever discussed. Now I get they got 60+ games in, but I understand why the players are sitting there going “Wait, why are we only going to be working for a guaranteed 50%?”

I'm not going to claim I fully understand the economics.
But why not play a 50-75 game season and prorate the pay to that many games. As an owner they should know better than to thing they can basically get games played for free.
With that being said baseball needs to get off its ass and do something because they look bad right now

The owners are to blame and they have the most to lose.

I totally understand as a player, when the risk of injury is going to be through the roof, and getting COVID and taking it home to your family, I might just say I’m cool to sit it out.

A lot of the big stars probably have insurance policies or something that will pay out for lost wages too.
