I have a serious collection of 870s. I have a tac but not the DM magazine gun. I will get one at some point I’m sure but here lately I’ve been looking at the semi automatic guns. It all started when I inherited a model 11 which is made from the browning patten. I’m toying with the idea of a panzer AR12 for no other reason than it looks fun.
Edit: I currently have an 870 set up for home defense but I’m thinking point and shoot without having to pump might be better.

I have an opportunity to buy a quantity of Speer 75 grain Gold Dot at a nice price. This would be extra ammo for my SBR (if I live long enough to actually shoot / carry it), as I literally cannot find Hornady TAP 75 SBR anywhere. This would be "SBR specific" ammo, as 75 grains is at the limit of what my 1/9's can shoot accurately. Push come to shove, yes, but I am looking to build my SBR stock.

Deal, or no deal?

I still don’t have an answer on my shotgun dilemma.
What makes you think we can handle a more complicated question?

Speaking only for myself, I am interested in the Mossberg because of the safety location and twin extractors, both of which are features that could save my life and we're talking about a firearm that is only going to be relied upon if someone is in my house. Not to say that a safety in the trigger guard isn't simple or that the Remington extractor is unreliable. Just my preference. For the 870, the steel receiver is a plus but for someone at the half century mark age-wise it really doesn't matter. Another thing I like about Remington is that they will cut an 18" barrel while Mossberg wimps out at 18.5". I don't live in a place where LEO is likely to ding you for a Class III violation if their tape says your barrel is a mm or two shy, but that could change so maybe it's better to err on the side of caution.

I hang my hat on this FN SLP Tactical....18 inch barrel....6+1 capacity....shooting this thing is as much fun as you can have and still have clothes on.

there is another version which has 22 inch barrel and 8+1 capacity. Both are discontinued but they are still available.

I'd not pass on a "nice price" for any quality ammo at this point and damn is well regarded.

I did buy a 500 rd box of .22 last week when I saw a big stack of them sitting on a shelf. I don't use it often and have quite a bit but they had plenty, even a few of the Remington buckets, so I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to take one off their hands. They also had one 200 rd box of .223 but I thought about what I already have, how much I've shot in the past couple of years, and left it there for the next person.

Yeah, 300 rounds of Speer 64 gr GDSP for right at $200. I can't get anywhere close to that via ammoseek or any of the other little out-of-the-way spots I use. So I'll write the check tomorrow.

Thanks for the input. I'm at a comfortable number with my ammo stocks right now, so I can sit back and wait on a good deal, on the rare occasion that they cross my path.

Oh...called the ATF. "Pending" @ 5 months in. I figure I'm halfway there. Going up later this week for a "conjugal visit".

The Ruger American 45.
Yes or no, and why?

The need is for carry while on the property or a hike. To drop things like the wild boar I encountered. It didn’t come at me but it could have and now I’m thinking the 9mm might not have enough kick.

I personally haven't encountered a boar but have heard enough stories to know I want lots of knockdown energy if it does in fact happen. I don't think a 9mm OR a 45ACP has enough knockdown for a boar. Got a 44 magnum?

Should probably consider that too.
The neighbor at the property has also said there’s a mountain lion around the area. I have not seen it and I’m not in a hurry too.

I don't know the specs on American .45. I would think you need a hard bullet with a high grain count to take down a large, meaty animal with a .45. My gut tells me that a polymer carry gun just isn't intended for that type of load but I'm no expert. I would think a .357 mag with at least a 4" barrel a better choice as I know people have hunted large game with that caliber for years.

As for shotguns, on Tuesday I went back to the place where I saw the 590 tactical last week, as the sales guy suggested. No only was the 590 gone, but none of the new stuff that I'd been told they were expecting was left. It turned out that the shipment came in in Saturday. This is just a want for me so I can wait it out but if someone really needs home a home defense shotgun right now, don't be picky because it's slim pickings out there.

There’s a place in Rossville just outside of Chattanooga I stop by from time to time. The always seem to have interesting stuff. I was in there yesterday and the had 2 Winchester defenders in 12 gauge. Not what I was looking for either but still interesting guns. They also had 2 mini 14s in ranch. Also not a need at the moment but also cool to look at.

If you prefer the auto platform I'd be looking at a 10mm for that purpose.
