I for one, like to know why people have certain opinions so that I can get a broader sense of the situation. I do my own research to form my own opinions, but part of the process is listening to others thoughts. Everyone should take in the information that's presented, but do with it what they want.
Good points, well said.
I do wonder something - why is it that Leach draws such sharp and ardent emotions from either side of the debate?
For every other candidate, there seems to be some middle ground, some positive and negatives to each. With Leach, it's much more sinner or saint, and not a lot in-between for most.
Personally, I like Mike Leach, and would love nothing more than to see him as the next head coach - barring almost any other candidate who's name doesn't begin with a "G" and end with an "ruden".
I think that there are some concerns about him for sure - but many, many more positives as well.
I think that he would instantly energize the fan base, that he would bring excitement and expectation back to so much that has, frankly, gone stale.
I could care less that he's odd, aloof, likes pirates, has a law degree (how many of us would be married, and fresh out of law school - and would have risked it all to follow their true passion of coaching college football?), but most importantly - I like that he scores as many times and as often as he possibly can. I like that he doesn't apologize for it. I like that he was still throwing the ball in the final minutes of a game when he was already up by 30 on a top 10 team. You already know that there are coaches in this league who would do that to us - why wouldn't you want someone who could and would reciprocate it?
I am certainly open, and want, to hear and understand where the great fear lies in him coming to The Hill.
Is it that most believe his system wouldn't work in the SEC?
Do you believe that his "quirks" would be more than they were worth?
Do you believe that he's just the flavor of the month, and we're all (his supporters, that is), trying to buy snake oil?
Where's this catastrophe that will surely await us if Leach is the new coach?
I am NOT talking about records, stats and other things of that nature - because those can't wholly explain the reaction on either side, I think - but rather, what everyone truly believes would happen if he were hired - in either a good or bad direction.
Maybe learning that would help everyone better understand what it is that makes the opinions so markedly different.
