Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

If he's hired, I'll immediately make a "logical choice" of my own.

as i mentioned in the "logical" thread, if leach gets hired without us being completely and utterly rejected by Kiffin, Davis, Cowher, Gruden, Patterson, Kelly, Muschamp, Venables or a host of other names, even I would be ready to stamp Hamilton's ticket out of Knoxville.

Did you know: Did you know that in 1998 Kentucky tied the Tennessee Volunteers for most points scored in the SEC for the season, both at 431 points. Tennessee won the national championship that year, while Kentucky lost 5 games and played in one less game than Tennessee. I think Leach is pretty good. Give him some help with the defense, even better. :dance2:

Leach just wants a big payday because he knows with the talent that is here he could milk the university for 2 yrs before his crappy recruits begin to reflect his ability. Year 3 he would be gone. IF MH hires him he deserves to be fired.

Team's he's coached:

Cal Poly (Assist.)
COD (Assist.)
Pori Bears
Iowa Wesleyan (OC)
Valdosta State (OC)
Kentucky (OC)
Oklahoma (OC)
Texas Tech

It's not like he exactly had a lot to work with....except his single season at OK, which he turned the offense around in one year. That and he is 10-0 and sitting at #2 in the BCS this year....at Texas Tech.

not true, at Pori, he had a couple of 4 star receivers from Helsinki

Hate to admit it, but your avatar looks familiar... or maybe it's just the pole.:) Any hints?

If Gruden & Davis are not willing to take our offer.......Leach is next on my list, after that Kiffen. I think any of the 4 will give us a good chance to be competitive again within a few years.

A bunch of people whined when we brought it Pearl but they're not whining now. I seriously doubt any of our VASF donations would actually be missed anyway. MH nailed the basketball hire....let's give him a chance to finish his ultimately wonderful decision in removing the cancer that was the Fulmer regime & get us who he thinks will do the best job. Go Vols, Amen, God Bless 'merica, & eat your vitamins.

Only problem i got with that is its coming three years to late. We're reaping the rewards of that delay. He better hit a homerun or he's next.

I for one, like to know why people have certain opinions so that I can get a broader sense of the situation. I do my own research to form my own opinions, but part of the process is listening to others thoughts. Everyone should take in the information that's presented, but do with it what they want.

Good points, well said.

I do wonder something - why is it that Leach draws such sharp and ardent emotions from either side of the debate?

For every other candidate, there seems to be some middle ground, some positive and negatives to each. With Leach, it's much more sinner or saint, and not a lot in-between for most.
Personally, I like Mike Leach, and would love nothing more than to see him as the next head coach - barring almost any other candidate who's name doesn't begin with a "G" and end with an "ruden".

I think that there are some concerns about him for sure - but many, many more positives as well.

I think that he would instantly energize the fan base, that he would bring excitement and expectation back to so much that has, frankly, gone stale.
I could care less that he's odd, aloof, likes pirates, has a law degree (how many of us would be married, and fresh out of law school - and would have risked it all to follow their true passion of coaching college football?), but most importantly - I like that he scores as many times and as often as he possibly can. I like that he doesn't apologize for it. I like that he was still throwing the ball in the final minutes of a game when he was already up by 30 on a top 10 team. You already know that there are coaches in this league who would do that to us - why wouldn't you want someone who could and would reciprocate it?

I am certainly open, and want, to hear and understand where the great fear lies in him coming to The Hill.

Is it that most believe his system wouldn't work in the SEC?

Do you believe that his "quirks" would be more than they were worth?

Do you believe that he's just the flavor of the month, and we're all (his supporters, that is), trying to buy snake oil?

Where's this catastrophe that will surely await us if Leach is the new coach?

I am NOT talking about records, stats and other things of that nature - because those can't wholly explain the reaction on either side, I think - but rather, what everyone truly believes would happen if he were hired - in either a good or bad direction.

Maybe learning that would help everyone better understand what it is that makes the opinions so markedly different.

The thing that I love is how many teams have expressed interest in obtaining Leach? I've only heard interest from UT. OTOH, pretty much all the schools are showing interest in Kiffin.

Are you serious? With the circus this guy brings with him it wouldn't surprise me.

Anybody that wants a good laugh I suggest looking at some of his vidoes on youtube. He has a dorkiness about him I think is cool as hell.

After defending CPF here last season and leading into this year, I can tell you exactly what causes the sharp and ardent emotions.... he loses too many football games. It's not complicated to understand.

Then that says volumes, alone.

If Leach were the coach, i'm sure someone would be willing to fill your vacated space, wouldn't they?

Or, do you think that they'd miss you?

Maybe so. Maybe not.

Wrong again. Hat would still be here two years later when Leach and Hamilton are gone.

Ok, that's fair. Let's look at Davis' record and Kiffen's record then.

I think it's fair to say the majority of us on here would take Gruden first regardless so let's look at the other's and if we're just gonna base it on records of wins/losses....let's see 'em.

Here's the answer TD (you should've been able to glean this out of the posts in the past couple of days) Leach hasn't won anything yet, his offense is prolific but we don't know about his defense, there are several head coaches in the SEC to contend with and if Mike Hamilton believes in his total scheme your boy can come to the Hill. In other words, it ain't up to us in the Volnation who is the next football coach at Tennessee. We're awaiting the decision.

Are you guys just broken records crying over the fact that people are making your pirate walk the plank?

You're wasting your time on Leach. He's not coming.
