What Happened to America?

Very true. You don't make it to the top of a Fortune 500 company being nice, or even ethical. All kinds of skeletons rattling in those closets.
I've watched the people that have climbed to the top and know a couple very well. They are very good at smiling and acting all buddy-buddy but they will stick a sheave in a person in a heartbeat. The people that become CEOs and upper level management aren't anyone's friends. They will suck a few up with them to have their back when they need a buffer, but from my experience they are ruthless.

Well since this thread has turned into exactly what is expected, I don't feel bad about leaving my two cents.

I think the animosity has sky rocketed in the last 20 years, and I think that's because the left and the right are increasingly playing two entirely different games.

There used to be easy common ground between the two parties. We live in a great country that mostly works and needs constant adjustment. Sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right. That's basically gone now. For lots of reasons.

Borrowed from a friend but is absolutely 100% truth....

What happened to America? The America I know would have helped you build your house, helped you plow your fields, raise your barn, and lifted you up in any way they could. Even the smallest gesture was one of love and kindness when people in the community were in need.

Now Americans want you to fail. They pride themselves in standing in your path, being an obstacle, and having a role, ANY ROLE, in taking you down.

This whole concept and narrative of "if you are not with us, you are against us and therefore the enemy" has got to stop. It is truly unAmerican.

The left loves to use the fallacy of Arguing to Emotion. They know emotion can "win" every time (in their own minds). They love to shame you because you dont care about 80,000 deaths enough to stay home and wear a mask. Yet they did not give one *** about 66,000 deaths last year, and every year before it as evidenced by no Stay at Home and not wearing masks. They will also not do it again next year.

All of this is optics and the left loves optics...well except when it comes to Joe Biden.

What happened?

Hurt feelings, participation trophies, one level learning where no child is permitted to be exceptional on any level, broken families, affirmative action, feminazi's, pride parades, removal of God and the American Flag, revisionist history, Common Core broken education systems, radicalized universities, propaganda echo chamber news outlets...I could go on for days.

The result? Your introduction into a leftist dominated America.

When lining up issues left or right of center, the one that I find most out of place is abortion rights. I interpret right of center as aligned with capitalism, pro-business, freedom, and liberty with left of center embracing socialistic leanings, pro labor while anti business (dumb and short sighted), and government control to solve problems. Abortion has 2 main parties involved (excluding the sperm donor) though and when #2 is given rights is where the argument is centered. Nationalism versus globalism is another blurred line... strong borders versus letting everybody in. Protecting worldwide commerce versus minding our own business. The planet has become much smaller so it's hard to not be some sort of world police. Protecting citizens should be the primary function of the federal government. But the concept gets abused by special interests wanting open borders and the ability to spy on and eff up the lives of political opponents.

Supporting police versus being against a police state. Letting people be what they chose versus family and religious values... more blurred lines. I tend to lean toward letting the LGBTQXYZs do what they need to, but take government resources out of it. Maybe tax breaks for the married needs to be eliminated. Government funded Offices of Diversity are crocks. Promoting division is what sustains those bureaucracies.

Truthfully, I don't know why the Libertarian party hasn't flourished. Maybe they piss off everybody a bit too much or the early plank of legalizing EVERY drug destroyed their viability out of the gate.

Trump has very little understanding of business. By almost any standard, he's nowhere near an astute businessman. The record on him supports my claim

No one said a ****** thing about Obama, but you sure are an example of our dumb nation
Oh for Pete's sake. To say Trump has very little understanding of business is just stupid. And the 'records' do no such thing.

You would be funny were you not so pathetic.

Not on Facebook. No interest in that wasteland. And I wouldn’t waste 5 seconds on investigating anything about Trump. I KNOW what sort of man he is and I don’t need to check that out. He showed me all I need to know way before he got in office. End of discussion.
LOL

Why would a halfway attractive woman like her tatt up like that? Good Lord I don't understand that.

In the span of two paragraphs you managed to contradict your own argument in favor of unity, by turning it political, and completely blaming Democrats. Donald Trump appeals to emotions as well, when making arguments. He also likes to scapegoat.

As for your statement that America used to be a place where people would help to lift you up in any way they could? Whether or not you agree with that, probably depends on the color of your skin. I doubt you will find a consensus for that among black Americans who were alive in the 50's and 60's.

There's a 100% chance he won't get it, despite it being pointed out multiple times.

Just about every thing that is wrong with this country can be found in George Washington's Farewell Address to the Nation. He tried to warn the people what political parties would do to this country. The people failed to listen.

No system is perfect and they will all depend greatly on the government leadership's willingness to compromise, which we don't have enough of anymore. Most politicians do exactly what the OP did with this thread - call for greater unity and a more collaborative effort from our elected officials ... while simultaneously attacking the other party. The post which began this thread (which you quoted) was absolutely ridiculous.

I don't disagree, but like I said, GW predicted this. While in office, he kept a balance. Once he retired from service, the infighting between Hamilton and Jefferson became more prominent and politics like we know it truly began. Now some 220+ years later it's grown exponentially. The parties fight for power, and we citizens let them. Hell, we encourage it by electing the same people over and over despite the fact they never really fix anything. And then you have the people who believe their side is better. Their side is the "right" side. There is no right side in our political system because both parties are the same. But most people foolishly refuse to see it for what it is.

I believe that putting an end to "the American career politician" would solve a lot of our problems... and before anyone points to Joe Biden... yes, he is most definitely, a career politician. We need term limits in the United States Congress. I would propose a maximum of 6 terms in the House of Representatives (12 years) and 2 terms in the Senate (also 12 years). The same person can serve in both... but still only a maximum of 12 years in both, whether served consecutively or not.

The “system” depends greatly on it’s citizens keeping it in check. People in government left unchecked will always take advantage of those they govern.

Here’s how you know term limits is a good idea:

You never (ok...rarely) hear politicians talk about it as a way to fix our broken system.

But we need the people in government to actually follow through on the wishes of the citizens. Unfortunately, I don’t think the citizens are willful enough to just vote out someone who doesn’t actually vote the constituents wishes. Ultimately we get turned back against each other with arguments about abortions and gun rights.

We are too far gone for that to ever happen, but I agree completely. Not a one of these corrupt asses would vote for that.
