Can't remember the last time my cornbread pans were washed with soap and water....I never do more than wipe the as dry as I can get them with paper towel.
Soap & water will do nothing to any properly seasoned cast iron. Heat infuses the oil to the metal & creates a barrier. Just like Teflon or any non-stick coating. Cast iron will only rust if the coating is scratched
