We are already together as a work community. Whether that be broader company - or our business units. There aren't silos that somehow need to be bridged to solve some problem. ERGs weren't created to build silos or break them. I'm confused on where you're going with the thought.

The question was specifically about Pelosi. But the broader point is still that travel ban was an appropriate decision. If Biden criticized it, he was wrong.

Where the population density of Manhattan is 66,940 people per square mile. That is the highest of any county in the United States... if you can't understand why that makes them especially vulnerable to the spread of viruses? Well, maybe you're a little slow?

Yet it seems you have built silos. My company does most of not all of the items you spoke about. It is handled through Human Resources and everyone has an opportunity to help no matter what the project is and all work with each other.

Third largest shipping port in the nation, 6th busiest airport in the US, 15th busiest airport in the US, and 20th busiest airport in the US are all also in NYC metro area.

Travel in and out is another significant factor.

As a company, we have a pretty big focus on "bring your whole self to work." And I've personally seen it in teams that I've been on and with teams that I've led. When employees don't feel completely comfortable within the company or within their team - they hold back. When they bring up an idea that gets shot down it can feel personal because they're already touchy because they feel judged. And it slowly erodes their participation and value-add. It's been a positive campaign for us. It's why I joined a steering team for one of the ERGs - I saw the difference it was making and wanted to do more.

Sounds like a waste of time and resources on things HR could take care of individually

Well we do those company wide initiatives all the time. Then the ERGs usually identify projects they want to do as well. I’ve been out doing a Habitat for Humanity that was company wide on a Saturday morning and then volunteering at an event at the LGTBQ center that night. I don’t really think too much about the group that organized it. Just opportunities to lend a hand where I think it’s useful.

The NYC outbreak is not on Cuomo, or de Blasio.

But if you are looking for a smoking gun from a politician that absolutely caused deaths, look no further than Cuomo's retarded nursing home mandate and complete refusal to close public transportation.

Yeah that doesn’t work as well in my opinion. If it isn’t employee led then you lose much of the impact (not that HR aren’t employees themselves but it’s a bit of it’s own entity).

Folks also have to keep their heads about it. I’ve seen some people throw themselves into an ERG that they are super passionate about and forget about their day job and ultimately be caught up in staff reductions - being a bit confused because they thought that’s what the company wanted them to do. While the company does encourage you to participate, you obviously still have a job to do.

The fact these are led by your peers in the company is helpful in soft ways too. For example a colleague coordinates the disability network at our site and she had organized a horse therapy event for employees at our company who have special needs or family with special needs. I have a child that she felt could benefit from it and came by to talk to me. Ultimately we signed my daughter up and she loved it and we learned how that might be helpful. I wasn’t in that network at that time but it wasn’t restricted. By not being in it, it meant I wouldn’t be organizing - but it didn’t mean I couldn’t participate.
