He's 81 and he's happy. I think he's earned the right to live life on his terms. He knows the risks and chooses to accept them. Enjoy the time you have with him now, and appreciate every moment, otherwise, you're the maroon.I'm mad at my dad. He's 81 years old and had triple bypass when he was 53. He's had 4 or 5 stents since then. He had a bout with fluid around his heart 2 years ago and the doctor told him he basically has congestive heart failure and that he could live 6 months or 6 years. He gets around amazingly well and other than getting tired more easily it doesn't really affect him that much.
But - it obviously puts him at much greater risk should he contract Covid 19 so I worry about how hard headed he is about going out in public right now. He gets his prescriptions from a Kroger pharmacy that has no drive thru, so he has to go inside. There is another Kroger closer to him that has a drive thru. I've begged him to call and switch his meds to the closer Kroger so he can go thru the drive thru. His answer is always that he's been doing business with these people for years and wouldn't feel right switching now. What? He acts like his regular Kroger is some little local hardware store that he's been doing business with for years and won't switch to Home Depot out of loyalty. I've told him Kroger gives 3 sh*ts which pharmacy he uses, and in fact they'd probably prefer he use a drive thru right now. But he's not having it. I've talked with him about getting them mailed to him but he says he just doesn't like change. What a maroon

Not trying to pile on here, but truer words cant be spoken. You may spend the day with you dad doing whatever you or he want to, or are capable of doing and that be the last time. Trust me it can happen. Cherish this time you still have. He's 81 and he's happy. I think he's earned the right to live life on his terms. He knows the risks and chooses to accept them.
