It really baffles me how the government can shutdown beaches. Beaches are pretty much the edge of the world. Governments should have no power there. But also, who gathers close together (outside of spring breakers) on beaches anyway? Seems like a fine place to leave open during times like these.

The 1918 flu was very mild through summer. It wasn't until the fall of 1918 and on into 1919 winter that it became what it was.

You're absolutely right, he was the best I ever saw except for H. Walker at Georgia who was just brute force. Webb had such extraordinary balance even at full speed. But his career was over with that knee injury. Late in the game against Pacific with us winning by 30+ points, what a waste. Why Majors had him in that game I'll never know. Most people have no idea how bad that injury was. But Green Bay drafted him in the 2nd round and his knee just never came around. It's my understanding he collected $1 million on an injury policy and disappeared back to Toledo.

A friend of mine was a punter on the team and said Webb was a hard core criminal coming out of the worst part of Toledo at a time when that its was almost like Camden, NJ, a war zone. Totally scary, no one wanted to be anywhere near him off the field. They used to joke that he had a pre-designated convenience store to go rob when he needed to get it out of his system and if he went there they wouldn't report it. I know it's not true, of course, but that's pretty funny seeing as how it was coming out of the locker room.

That friend was a walk-on punter. His whole purpose was to pee in the bottle for drug tests. He got called for the "random" test every week of his career. I've never asked if other people's names were on the bottle, guess I should some time.

I was also told by someone who was a tight end on that team that the whole team hated him mostly because of his theft from lockers.

I wouldn’t say many celebrate it but I agree overall. It’s a terrible thing and we should try to reduce it. That requires investing in education in low income areas and other methods of lifting the poorest of society from the depths.

Despite wanting to bulldoze the other 2 each and every year, my year goes way much better when We can bitch stomp the gaturds. For the most part they have owned us since the early 90's when we became east rivals and I say my prayers every year We finally find that longevity with a coach and his squad. Once We all can get back to normalcy, I so much look forward to being back @ Neyland.

There are no inferior races, but there are inferior cultures. As long as we pursue policies which allow inferior cultures to profilerate, the poor and uneducated will remain that way. No amount of money will fix a culture that doesn't value the things that allow it to prosper. Darwin would be most disappointed in some of his adherents.

My dad fought in Korea and Vietnam. Saw hell so Ulysses can have a nice TV but yeah we got it pretty good these days.

I don't have much of anything...but that doesn't lessen the fact your dad is a hero.
