Nurse are you like me? Spent most of my adult life voting for the democrats. For a long time it was the norm and I thought it was the right thing to do. Their propaganda machine really works to make you think all Republicans are RACIST! I even thought minorities who vote Republican were sellouts. That's what they want you to believe.
Fast forward I started to have some ah ha moments and a lot of introspection and realized conservative values is really what I believe in. There are some good intentions with liberalism but a whole lot of twisted logic. Now the more time passes the more I'm not just an independent but the more I despise the democratic party because it's like a cloak has been lifted.
Just thought I saw where you said you used to vote democrat and your daughter still does from a post long ago.
I have voted both ways at the local level. That is, I actually knew the people I was voting for and could discuss issues with them. I'm a conservative at heart. I tend to look at both sides sideways and evaluate what they stand for independent of a party label. As far as parties go.... Both parties have huge missteps but they tend to love power more than America and the American people. The left is not concerned about preserving those very features that make living here great. The right is spending us into the ground well because we'll just make more fake money. I am and always will be for less government simply because I have never relied on their help to survive. That said, I don't need them in my life, period.
Either way both parties have failed the American people with graft and corruption, transparency and honesty are long forgotten in DC. My favorite oxymoron is honest politician.
At a local level they can be honest once they move up and attach themselves to special interests and PACS to get elected, they lost their ability to be freely effective. Elections have become a business that draws in those opportunistic politicians that lie with a smile on their face and their hand out. I don't believe they need any more of my hard earned money.
My daughter's will grow older and see what they have been taught in a liberal framework is a lie. I can't tell them, they have to find out for themselves. If they ask, lilreb and I tell them our thoughts, but they have to come into it on their own. My youngest questions some things from her own critically thinking mind. Things she been told but what she's sees and knows isn't right.
So we may have taken different roads to arrive at where we are at but I get what you are saying. I don't and have never been interested in getting into and controlling someone else's life and I don't expect a politician to be able to do that very thing to me. At my age I still have aha moments.
I have to laugh at the broad strokes that some want to paint others into. Everyone is different and their belief systems are different. I'm fine with that. When they want to break down my front door and insist I take up their belief system, they may get shot. That's my belief system also.
I separate people from politicians because people for the most part are decent, hard working and honest. I evaluate each person independently. You can't do that with Hollywood and politicians because it's kinda an act and spin they are hoping we buy. I'm biased In that manner.... Obviously.
I had a coworker threaten to hunt my picture up on Facebook for some competition they are having, I wished her luck finding my profile. I don't like my picture being taken or posted, that's just me. You aren't going to force me to participate in a non job related exercise if I don't want to... I'm also stubborn. The thought that she believed it was ok to hunt down my profile and post my pic on the 4th floor wall without my permission is beyond me... I'm private.
I get you. It's been an interesting journey in life so far. Be true to thyself and be honest. That's how I try to live, sometimes I fail.
