She would have been the starting point guard. And if she comes into next season playing at the level she was at by the end of this abbreviated season (when she finally seemed fully recovered) she would have been an upgrade from Massengill. She will be a great asset to Texas...

Taylor Mikesell of Maryland has entered the portal. She is an absolute sharp shooter and a really competitive player. I really think she and coach Harper would be a great match. I hope we recruit her heavily. I would LOVE to see her in orange!

She will be a Junior and would likely have to sit a season unless the rule changes or she can get a waiver.

I agree! I got really excited when I saw her name come up. Hoping she’s not just following Shak Austin and her former coach to Ole Miss.

I can really picture her fitting in perfectly. She is just the right player for what we’re missing. 43% three point shooter, great ball handler and a quality passer. She had 113 assists as a freshman. Passing and scoring were down a bit last season with the emergence of Owusu.

Hoping we have a shot because I’m already day dreaming about what it would look like! She is TOUGH too. She is an Ohio native like Horston. Wonder if they ever had any connection?

Last I checked, we need players. Particularly at the guard spot. I certainly hope the program is reaching out to all of these players. Miksell is a great talent and would be an excellent addition. We may not get her, but at least we can hope.

The hyperbole in your statement is ridiculous as well. Out of 286 players in the transfer portal (so far). Maybe 10 names have been mentioned here total.

Or maybe you should trust in the process it’s obvious Coach Harper wants to bring in HS kids she recruits and has determined can be players she can build a program from. Bringing in a grad transfer for just 1 year probably just hinders development of young players and as far as underclassmen in the portal they have already proven they will leave if not happy. Have faith in our coach.

The whole point of this forum is to DISCUSS. I support coach Harper and trust her process. That doesn’t mean we can’t all discuss potential options here. If you don’t want to discuss, see yourself out.

We have 11 players on the roster including the two incoming recruits. Of those 11. Saunders hardly played so no guarantee we get more there than we did last season. McCoy isn’t going to cut it in the SEC. Rennie is a role player, two are freshman and Green looks tough but is undersized and unproven against P5 competition.

That leaves us with only 6 players that are known viable options. To prevent the program from having a couple massive down years we need somebody else who can play. Specifically at the guard spot. That answer won’t be coming in 2020 and so far it’s not in 2021 either.

We need to make some moves one way or another pretty quickly or we are going to have a very tough time for a couple of seasons. God forbid Horston is injured. Rennia, Rae or Rennie would be splitting minutes at the point.

How does that sound for you?

Actually I am very optimistic about those 11 kids. 4 starters in Davis, Burrell, Key, Horston most teams would love to have those 4 guaranteed to start. An open competition for 5th starting spot is a great thing! That also leaves 7 other recruited scholarship players. Great things about to happen.

Since you want all these portal and graduations transfer kids to be Lady Vols that kinda makes it a lady vol discussion then doesn’t it. Have a great day.

Not to pick it apart, but Rennie committed under Holly and re-affirmed her commitment after the coaching change.

I think Harper is doing a fine job and I’m looking forward to next season. I do think we have a hole to fill at the guard spot though. Defensively we just aren’t going to have enough players who can guard on the perimeter with the current roster. Unless Salary is a game ready player on both ends of the floor.

Did not know that...I thought Jessie came after the fact.

I'd go one further regarding the hole at the guard spot. The team not only lacks a true PG, but it also lacks a backup combo guard that can fill in for Horston. If she gets in foul trouble or has to miss any games, who on the team can realistically step in and play that position? I hope Kellie's #1, 2, 3 priority is to find some reliable PG/true combo guards in the portal. If everything went according to plan, they would have Westbrook, Hayes, Massengill, Horston and Zaay Green as their guard rotation. As it stands, only 1 of the 5 is still there. This will be a huge issue if the roster doesn't get fixed.

EDIT: saw that you said the same thing in a previous post regarding guard depth. Totally in agreement!

As am I...we have to get a backup BHer immediately
preferably a mighty-mite speed guard who can defend as well as handle the ball and distribute

She is included in that count. We have 8 returning from last season. Green made 9 and the two incoming recruits make 11. I lumped her in with the rest since she is coming to us as a grad xfer with experience.

Presuming you mean Keyen Green as Zaay is obviously no longer with the team.

I’m excited to see Jordan at point. She can get her own shot and hopefully the rest of the team will be ready for some bullet passes! Could be fun! Just hope we get to have a season.
I don’t care for baseball, too slow, but I am hoping they get the Phoenix season off the ground.
