Coronavirus (No politics)

Reminder, please keep politics out of this thread. I don't feel like deleting posts, but head to that forum if you want to sling poo at each other.

News here: still zero cases at Children's, the drive-up garage testing center is a ghost town, and the hospital has cut staff due to unheard-of low census. Knox County Schools jumped at the chance to cancel for the year (no surprise) while, apparently, having zero understanding of virology or herd immunity. Still only 3 pediatric deaths in the US, to my knowledge.

Something is amiss. Why not wait a couple of weeks before saying no school? Why not get more information before making such a big decision? I bet your doctor friend has heard nothing from his letter. I know you say not to say anything political but how can you avoid it when so much politics seem to be involved in this at this point?

I wish that it could be shared where infected people had been when they were likely contagious. I'd like to know if any employees at carry out restaurants were sick, but that information likely shuts down the business. China is being heavily criticized for lying and hiding info, but we're doing something similar by keeping possible sources secret.

I don't think that's ^^^ political, is it?

I assume that it has to do with saving money.

Local news in Nashville has been reporting positive cases at certain groceries. Just yesterday, they reported about a positive case at a Tyson plant. If the health department knows about workers at specific restaurants, it's going to get reported.

We don't seem to be making decisions based on actual data or scientific knowledge. No kidding: we are part of a real-time experiment. A shutdown like this is unprecedented, so you can't just assume any outcome. As I've said before, it could actually be harmful in the long run, in terms of herd immunity/viral spread/protection of those at high-risk. The only thing we know, for sure, is the effect it is having on the economy, personal finances, businesses, access to medical and dental care, and mental health.

And, no, Governor Lee has yet to respond. The online petition has over 1,300 signatures.

Do you folks think things should just reopen full force?

If it was upto you (in general), how would you proceed from this point?

I would open the barbershops and beauty salons first, haha. Surely the owners could use some common sense and do appointments to keep numbers down inside the establishment.

Yep.

If it were up to me, I would say that i dont have the right to shut down other peoples' property in the first place. Allow people to personally assess the risk level and act accordingly.

Yes. I'd advise people, no matter their age or health, that they vastly increase their risk of catching this the more they interact with others.

Id advise people with health issues already and older people to take extreme measures in isolating.

I'd advise senior living centers and similar places to operate under very strict measures.

I'm essentially advising people to behave like adults and use their intelligence.

I think a key re-opening element is to maintain quarantine for those over 60, especially in the beginning. Avoiding overwhelming the local medical capability and stopping the high death rate is essential.

Age discrimination. Healthy 60 yo are not the problem.

Why not all obese people over the age of 60?
