Can you say with certainty that social distancing in the “cool” spots didnt prevent a bigger outbreak? Unfortunately I dont think people would have complied if businesses hadnt been forced shut down for a bit.

One of my clients owns 3 successful pizza shops. He shut down about a week before it was mandated citing that very reason. As long as he was open people would keep coming.

The economy will pick itself back up. Dead people wont. That doesnt mean I think this should go on indefinitely. Particularly in those areas that seem to have escaped the outbreak. I see May 1st as a realistic soft reboot point for cool spots.

I dont want to dive too far into politics but lets not pretend this was just some media induced panic that forced governments around the world to shut down for a bit just to make Trump look bad. The media doesnt have that much power.

It is true that dense cities will spread it faster. However the reason it is so bad in the dense cities is that it was spreading unchecked in February with a little slow down as we became more aware in early March. By the time we shut things down they were much further down the curve than East TN because they started earlier (more travel in from Europe) and it went faster (denser). Because of exponential growth every few days makes a big difference (it was likely doubling every 3-4 days so every week they waited the deaths they ultimately will see likely quadrupled). And one more week was roughly 16x what it would have been. (Now that isn’t really true because we aren’t going from fast spread to zero spread upon quarantine, but I’m just illustrating a point).

So if you do nothing in moderately populated areas it will become a very significant problem. The question is do you wait until it is or do you try to lasso it sooner? It’s a difficult policy question.

A) Patient zero was from lab (damn possible)
B) China either intentionally sent her out or let it spread because they wanted to highlight their ability to control their population (you’re going to have to show me a lot of data)

She's shooting to be VP and has all her chips in for that. She likely don't give a flying crap about anything other than getting Biden to select her as his VP running mate.

The Right has some nutcases too...but nothing like I've seen on the left fringe...I've seen them openly talking about economic collapse to punish the elites..to rebuild the infrastructure "green" and to usher in a working class party

There are right at 3500 cases confirmed in TN among people 50 and under. In that group there are 10 deaths. That is right at 0.2% CFR. An even lower mortality rate given you'd expect there are many more cases not confirmed.

We cant build a mfing strategy around this?

Reminder, please keep politics out of this thread. I don't feel like deleting posts, but head to that forum if you want to sling poo at each other.

News here: still zero cases at Children's, the drive-up garage testing center is a ghost town, and the hospital has cut staff due to unheard-of low census. Knox County Schools jumped at the chance to cancel for the year (no surprise) while, apparently, having zero understanding of virology or herd immunity. Still only 3 pediatric deaths in the US, to my knowledge.
