Despite ongoing pandemic, 'we're planning on a CFP,' says Bill Hancock

True. And ironically, that device is probably the number one carrier of the viruses that make so many sick.

After all dirty phones were how the Earth was populated.

The Golgafrinchans realised that were three types of beings on the planet of Golgafrincham: the leaders (or thinkers), the workers (or doers), and the middlemen. The leaders contained the artists and "achievers". The workers were the people who "did all the actual work", and who made and did things. The middle management was comprised of hairdressers, lawyers, telephone sanitisers, and other such "worthless jobs."

The group of leaders built a ship and convinced the middlemen to leave Golgafrincham by telling them several different reasons, including: that the planet was going to crash into the sun (or perhaps the moon was going to crash into the planet), that the planet was being invaded by a gigantic swarm of twelve foot piranha bees, and that "the entire planet was in imminent danger of being eaten by an enormous mutant star goat."

The middlemen were sent off, told that the other Golgafrinchans would follow soon, however they remained on the planet with no intention of leaving. The middlemen stayed in space for a long period of time, with many on board in suspended animation for the majority of the journey, with the exception of the Captain and his Number One and Number Two. This third class eventually crashed onto Earth, while the other two-thirds of their society on Golgafrincham lived full, rich and happily lived until they were all suddenly killed off by a raging disease contracted from dirty telephones.

Yep, I get it, I’ve read it, seen it, heard it.

But desperate times call for desperate measures and changes. If the virus were as bad as advertised, and we literally had millions of people dying, government officials dying, medical experts and scientists dying, we’d be getting a vaccine in weeks, not months.

Right now, something like 99.9998% of Americans have not died From this. So the incentive to speed up the vaccine doesn’t seem to be there.

The shortened time frames are the result of desperate measures.

No matter how you orange slice it, any sport for the remainder of 2020 has significant risks

Clinical trials take time, there's only so short you can make them and still get enough data to determine whether or not the vaccine in the trial is effective.

Necessity breeds invention. Before World War 2, it took months, even years, to make ammo, ships, planes, tanks, bombs, etc. By the end of the war, things that used to take months were taking weeks, things that took years were taking months. If we hadn’t found out a way to speed it up drastically, we’d all be dead or speaking German.

If we ever get remotely close to the point where this virus kills us all dead, you’ll see vaccines and therapeutics and all sorts of remedies pop up way sooner than we ever imagined.

Ohio State AD Gene Smith: Playing games in stadiums without fans is still unsafe

If the spread isn't under control, and stadiums are it is still considered 'unsafe' to allow masses of people to gather in close proximity, it's going to be very difficult to allow players to practice and exist in close quarters in and out of the game.

Interesting take from the AD of one of the most profitable Athletic Departments in the country. If any school could survive this it’s Ohio State or Texas.

No one knows for sure what's going to happen. At this point we can expect basically anything. No real need to debate it, we will just all follow what we are told to do.

But you won't, and if you were that concerned about being tracked, you wouldn't be carrying it around like you already are at the moment.

HA HA Fooled you! I was and am on a desktop. Don't even own a smart phone. My little phone is non traceable. Keeping it that way too.

<sigh>

Your phone doesn't have to be "smart" to be tracked. Every time you connect to a cell tower you ping it with your MEID number which points right back to your mobile phone number.

So unless you are a 'true baller' swapping burners every 2 calls and leaving your phone off at all times when not in use, you can still be tracked even with your flip phone.

I'll remove myself from your lawn now.

The one thing you have ever posted that I 100% agree on

A vaccine is unnecessary if we can effectively treat it.

No phone is untraceable. By using your GPS coordinates they can track you and label people you're close to as likely associates even if you never actually call those people. So even if your phones a burner the people close to you can be used to identify you.

Sports will be played in empty stadiums until there is an effective treatment or a vaccine. That’s just the truth. We could see 2 full seasons of all sports played this way
Have you looked at active cases in your area? In Blount county Tennessee we have 6 active cases and 0 current hospitalizations. Knox county in in the same boat. It's pretty safe to assume that it's time to left this "panic" go. Yes a couple of areas nation wide were hit hard but overall the word is recovery instead of pandemic.

It’s not panic. It’s staying smart and protecting yourself and others. Do you really want to sit packed shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of strangers for 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon without treatment or vaccine?

Blount county has 2 active cases now. Knox is down to 50. The mortality rate of no underlying health problems is less than .6%. Its time to do some realistic risk assessment and move forward with our lives.

We do? Are you counting a ventilator as a treatment?
No, partly because the ventilator crisis just hasnt happened. That's to right to try, expedited FDA trials and the whole freeking planet working on it we currently have 3 or 4 pharmaceutical treatments to combat those rare cases the virus becomes problematic. Granted if you have lung cancer take immuno blockers, are otherwise immuno suppressed you really shouldn't be out and about and should already be limiting exposure. But for the average otherwise healthy individual has almost nothing to fear at this point.

If it isn’t safe for fans then why safe for players? I am all for us playing them. But this is flawed logic.
