Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Yeah, but Trump's gotta be circumspect with his racism though. He can't just come out and say "the filthy Chinese who are robbing us blind did this by eating stuff we'd never put on our plate in the civilized world," so instead he does stuff like insisting on calling it "the China virus" so he has plausible deniability when his xenophobia is called out. But there are no social constraints (at least among the sane) about calling Trump a straight up xenophobe or calling a specific action of his xenophobic. And Joe Biden is not exactly one who engages in circumspect innuendo. If he believes something is racist or xenophobic, he'd call it such.

Also, Trumpers are not known for their principled theories of linguistic meaning and interpretation. If you recall from the impeachment days, nothing short of using the words "quid pro quo" was going to qualify as a quid pro quo.

I don’t know anything about those high fulutin words like “ principled theories of linguistic meaning and interpretation “ but I do know when my Bullsh!t meter pings in the red, I should point and laugh . This is me pointing and laughing after reading your post . 😂

Sounds like someone's projecting their own racism. "Filthy Chinese who are robbing us blind did this by eating stuff we'd never put on our plate in the civilized world". That came from your mind.

Says the guy who claims Kavanaugh lied under oath based on what he thinks comments in a HS annual "really mean".

A stroll through the Russiagate thread will find any number of examples of you telling us what people "really mean" even though the words don't say it.

Simply pointing out your double standard.

I think you hold Trump to standards you don't hold other politicians to. It's not a defense, it's a statement. Wrong isn't something to be selectively applied, yet I've noticed it's a habit for some, especially the more liberal posters. Honestly, I thought it refreshing to see you actually admitting some of the reality of all of this earlier. But it seems no matter what a Democrat does, some on here will always defend it. And even when Trump does something good, or right, he still gets attacked. My point has always been hold both sides to the same standards. But some have different standards for each side, which shows up in their degrees and continuums. It's not that I'm "normalizing" Trump. It's that some have "normalized" the behavior of politicians based on their partisanship. So when I suggest Trump be measured by those same standards(rather than a different set), some people lose their minds.
Any time that I've ever tried for even a moment to see things from the Trump-ian perspective, he immediately does something to nuke it. That video during the press conference was a crass and arrogant display of narcissism. Trump is egotistical to an extreme. He thinks he can get away with anything, and he doesn't possess a shred of self-awareness.

And the whole impeachment thing. Seem like the smarter play for you guys.

You assume they're going to be principled. One thing I've learned from Trumpers is that for them principles are for losers. It's about power, not consistent, principled positions. If the literal interpretation is favorable to them, that's what Trump meant. If the implied meaning is favorable, that's the one they'll go with.

So world daily deaths have flattened and look to be heading downward.

I find that interesting. You had these big jumps from China to Italy, France, Spain, UK, USA and now flattened. I am a bit surprised you're not seeing outbreaks in some big city like Mexico City, Sao Paolo, New Delhi, etc. I cant imagine they are all doing some great job.

LOL - do you have any self-awareness?

China takes advantage of USS Roosevelt being crippled by coronavirus and threatens Taiwan with aircraft carrier and warship strike group as it increases military presence in the disputed region

China appears to be taking advantage of the USS Theodore Roosevelt being crippled by the coronavirus by sending an aircraft carrier and fighter jets close to Taiwan over the weekend.

Taiwan's Defense Ministry said the Liaoning, China's first operational aircraft carrier, and five accompanying warships passed first through the Miyako Strait, located between Japan's islands of Miyako and Okinawa, to the northeast of Taiwan, on Saturday.

Liaoning and accompanying warships passed first through the Miyako Strait over the weekend. Pictured here, the Liaoning sailing with a flotilla of Chinese ships in April 2018

On Sunday, the carrier group, which included two 052D guided-missile destroyers - the Xining and Guiyang - two 054A guided-missile frigates - the Zaozhuang and Rizhao - and supply ship, the Hulunhu, sailed in waters on Taiwan's east coast and then into seas to the south of Taiwan, carrying out exercises, the ministry said.

Taiwan's armed forces monitored the carrier group's progress throughout and 'completed relevant actions in response to ensure national security and protect regional peace and stability'. There was no immediate response from China's Defense Ministry.

The USS Roosevelt and USS Ronald Reagan are the only two US carriers in the Pacific, but both have been forced to dock due to confirmed coronavirus cases onboard, which effectively gives China free range in the region.

The Liaoning, which can carry up to 24 J-15 fighter jets, is currently the only aircraft carrier active in the western Pacific.

Taiwan, claimed by China as its sacred territory, has complained of an increased Chinese military presence near the island in the past few weeks, and has told China is should be concentrating on fighting the new coronavirus rather than menacing the island.

Stuff like that makes me think the virus release was intentional.

So who do you think is going to speak more literal and direct in a public context in this society: someone who is calling out racism, or someone who is being racist? The only way to be a racist public figure nowadays is to speak obliquely and indirectly and rely on people understanding your dog whistles.

No one's asking you to see it from a "Trump-ian" way. I said use the same standards for all. Earlier, you acknowledged Trump can not win with the press. Truthful, accurate, and a nonpartisan observation. No one is saying don't point out his screw ups, just don't hold him to a standard you haven't held past Presidents or other politicians to.

I see, you can see through the "dog whistles" so even if someone doesn't say something YOU really know what they are saying.

How convenient you have these powers to apply only to those you disagree with politically.

Translation: Some Democrat in office or in the media will tell us what they really meant. Sounds familiar.

Neither side has principles and for both sides it's absolutely about power. What world are you living in that you somehow think either side has principles? You are familiar with the 2016 Presidential election, correct? Our choices were Hillary and Trump. Now, tell me about these "principles" again.

Judging by who throws the "racist" label around, the only way to be a racist is to be a Republican. If a Dem says or does something questionable, it was an innocent mistake.

Barack Obama is the first clean, articulate AA candidate - not at all racist in anyway (said by a white Democrat who may or may not be the current nominee front runner)

Tell your Abuela, Big Momma, etc to take Corona seriously. AA's reduce your smoking and drinking as it makes you more vulnerable - horribly racist (said by an AA Surgeon General who was appointed by Trump).

You aren't sacrificing a thing sitting in your car, Windows up listening to the preacher on the radio. It was over reaching.

I guess I don't understand the lo purpose of driving to church to sit in the car to listen to the radio if the purpose is not to potentially engage in interaction. That is just me.

There's always context. For example, Trump's insistence on calling it the "China virus." Most people who do not intend to be racist, when informed that something they said can be or has been interpreted as racist, will stop saying it. Trump instead did the opposite, going so far as to INSERT it into a speech that did not originally include it.

Just this weekend Stew and others defended Gropin Joe saying "Rs will put yall back in chains" and "poor kids are just as talented as white kids".
....but yeah....no racism there. No dog whistle.

You conveniently ignore all context for your double standard but I get it. It's hard to recognize your own biases.
