Adventures in home remodeling.

Work on the deck started today. Good news, bad news. First the bad. My old 2x10 deck joist are unusable due to excess warping and crowning from improper construction practices when built. Net result is increased cost and time. More bad; the deck band attached to the house from which the joists were attached wasn't installed properly. Resulting in damage to the house band and sill in places. More bad; bad window install created water slipping in between sheathing and siding at corner of house. Sill, band, sheathing all rotted out. Unknown damage to wall studs present, too. Net result increased time and cost.
Good news: this is day 1 so it can't get any worse. Right? Right??????

Some of you engineer types may appreciate this. A few days ago my main TV in the living room just shut off and wouldn't turn back on. I did a little research online and it appeared to to be one of 2 circuit boards and both were cheap and easy to get. I took it apart and after a few multimeter checks found a bad mosfet (transistor) on the power supply board. I elected to just buy another board instead of replacing the bad component ($60 vs $1 and much aggravation with soldering). Board came in and I changed it out, drug it back into the living room and hooked it back up and nothing. I was pissed until I went to step 1 of troubleshooting, is it plugged in? I forgot to plug it in and it now works like new.
As an aside, my kids used to get pissed when something broke because I usually fixed it instead of replacing it. I remember hearing one of my girls complaining to her mother that they never get anything new because daddy always fixes everything.

Man, you say fresh tomatoes, and I was planning to set out my Early Girl tomatoes in my planters this week, but this weather forecast in NE TN for the rest of the week looks like we're going to have some 30s at night for the next several days. Last year, we had our first mater sammiches with fresh tomatoes on June 15.
