Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Not most cities just limit contact of large groups and take extra precautions for older citizens. For example, holding Mardi Gras was dumb. There's no reason to shut down my town the same way as NYC yet that's what was avoided by many.

Mardi Gras was 2/25. At the time, our feckless leader was saying COVID was under control.

Why not just go with the middle and say so. When we continually only go worse case and it doesn't happen people stop listening.

I'm not sure what you're talking about - "continually only go worst case" would suggest that a global pandemic occurs frequently and that 'we' keep whiffing. I'm OK with being overly cautious with a novel virus, the alternative is less ideal.

No monday morning qb needed. I said from the beginning we would come under the models. That is common sense. No pol was ever going to throw out a number that was too low.

But you keep looking to govt to be informed.

That's true. But no pol is going to be want to be the one who left his constituents unprotected, either, so even with lower projections we may still end up with the same shutdown

Sorry, I had to lay off my proof reader. I meant only get worse case, and I am talking about in general, not just this pandemic.

No, we were left with heavy handed governing because the masses will always prefer to not think for themselves.

I dont view the governor or mayor as being responsible for my health.

Hell yes we should !!!!

A huge part of why we are in the desperate situation we are with this idiot in office is that we accept the one least like the imaginary boogeyman on the other side.

We return once again to the principle that your party largely did not care for Trump. But his campaign just made him the anti-Clinton.

Now you are stuck defending his incompetence. How many times a day do you find yourself having to say, or write, "Well, what he meant to say was ...."

They have an entire team at the WH who does nothing but come up with ways to make excuses, dodges, and clarifications for Trumps verbal diarrhea.
Whole lot of misdirection in that post. First, not my party, and I didn't vote for him. I won't vote for him this time either. I've admitted to many of Trump's shortcomings, and commented on his diarrhea of the mouth many times. The problem I have is you, or any other poster, holding him to different standards than you have past Presidents. I don't subscribe to that. You can call that "defending" Trump, or you can realize it's saying the playing field should be equal. Right or wrong shouldn't be determined by the party you belong to, but many people use that as their basis. And when I say many people, I include both sides.

I have zero problem calling out decisions I disagree with, but I don't feign mock outrage over every little thing he says or does. It becomes hard to take you, or anyone, seriously when you call him out over things you made no fuss about when past Presidents engaged in the same behavior. And some of the things called out are just stupid or trite.

Like having the country shut down? Vote for Biden, he'll be sure to extend to a 2 year vacation
Biden adviser, ObamaCare architect Zeke Emanuel says US should 'prepare' for coronavirus measures to last 18 months
Do you think things will return to normal after a pandemic where more than 80K people have died in 5 months? There should be and will be some changes made, because a vaccine will take about that long to get to everyone that needs it. Then you have those that won't take the vaccine. The chances of this flaring up again are pretty good.

Which makes it hard to blame only the potus for their failings. NO local leadership has a history of failing its citizens and has cost many lives
Maybe Trump deserves the blame for the National response and the State and local officals deserve the blame/praise for the local response. Any bad decision was the result of ignorance about the spread of the virus.

The models were off because garbage in, garbage out. You don't know anything about the virus, so how can you model it? I'm not surprised the epidemiologists, who are most likely academics or CDC folks, don't understand the idea of garbage in, garbage out. Those places don't have accountability. Nobody holds their hands to the fire when wrong.

We should have done targeted quarantine and not shut down the economy. Do people not realize shutting the country down is unprecedented? You don't do that over a virus a bit worse than the flu. The stats are clear, it's mostly the very elderly and at risk populations.

Kids aren't living right now. No school, no friends, some have no food. And if this goes longer, a lot of families won't have food, homes, health care. This is ridiculous.

You guys are hilarious. You say over and over how Fauci is the expert and trump should listen to his advice. Well guess what Fauci was saying in late February? That the threat from Coronavirus was minuscule! So basically if trump parrots Fauci, you cry. If trump doesn’t then he’s an idiot for not taking his advice. 😂 keep on looking foolish, it’s quite entertaining!

My track of state by state growth looks pretty good. You have one census region being walloped, with the NE holding 6 spots in the top 10 most cases per 10K population. Once their active cases start to diminish, that will be a big milestone. Most places have slower growth still.

For much of the country we are distanced from each other naturally just by America being not very population dense. A place like Italy doesn't even have room in the streets for full-sized cars. There are few if any spots in America that would match that dynamic.

The projections didn't foresee that 95% of the country would actually self isolate for the majority of the past month.

For once, Americans weren't stupid about something.
The freedom to do stupid things has led to many innovations. Many things look dumb til they work.

I hadn't even considered that we'll have to deal with the anti-vaxxer crowd. Ugh.

They have to return to normal. Otherwise we replace deaths from viral infection with deaths from malnutrition.
