Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Why? My co-workers talk about it all the time at work. People should learn to think for themselves.

I agree, be intuitive. But...
Critical thinking skill does not = a medical degree... which is what you should have to speak to the public about experimental medications. I promise no advanced practitioner would call a drug with inconclusive, anecdotal findings “a gift from god” in front of millions of people.

Trying to verify something Trump said might have killed someone. Some people can't seem to grasp Trump is a carnival barker. Really how much faith are you putting into this drug based on Trump mentioning it?
Wrong. Taking a medicine not prescribed by a doctor could kill them. And any faith I have is based on anecdotal evidence gathered by doctors, not on what Trump said. Only an idiot blindly follows.

He didn't come up with it on his own, so best bet is some medical official briefed him on it. He's qualified to mention what he was told. If he went into specifics, you might have a point, but he didn't. He mentioned it as a possibility, and said talk to your doctor, you know the experts.

“A gift from god”. What medical official briefed him on that? He’s an idiot.

It’s outrage because he has the world’s largest platform and is talking about something in which your local beer store clerk same the same qualifications to speak about. He should let the grown-ups who dedicate their life to medicine speak to the medicine.

On the other hand, I would pay money to listen to Trump give a seminar about tax evasion... total expert. People say it would be strongest, most beautiful tax evasion seminar in history.

The local beer clerk is intelligent enough to rely on his doctor for treatment recommendations.

Continue to freak out I suppose. Maybe that helps.

Verify against what? There are no controlled studies of it yet. There's basically a collection of anecdotal reports, some saying it helps, others seeing no effect.
Verify with your doctor. How hard is that to understand? You don't take something blindly without understanding the risks.

Talking to an emotional brick wall.
I don’t really care about this story, but there was stuff about it on here (and twitter) before Trump mentioned it.

At the initial press conference where he mentioned it the FDA director said Trump had asked “us” to take a look at it.

There were some studies out of China that got mentioned as well.

I’m sure it started with a doctor somewhere.

So you're saying anyone talking to the public about experimental medicines should have a medical degree?

Calm down my man, no need to get twisted over Trump's inability to field even the most innocuous of fluff questions. You should feel some comfort that I don't think you're nearly as stupid as Donny Exotic. Though.... That bar is set pretty low.

At any rate, this anger is not a good look for you - maybe you've had enough internet today, go play with your cat.
That was my impression of Trump. I guess it wasnt good enough :(

So Trump just pulled a drug that has supposedly worked for some people out of his ass? Wow, he's more brilliant than I thought.

Or some doctor told him about it.

You decide.

Oh come on man .. you know better than that . What does the CDC say about the drug and it’s side effects ? Are you really going to throw anecdotal results on this and then not tell us what something like Tylenol does to the liver ? Smh

Googling side effects of a drug is not the same as treating someone with it off-label for a deadly a novel virus. Sit down.

We need people to learn to think for themselves.... nothing trump has said has killed anyone.

Not sure I would call it optimism because if the numbers don't correlate with the narrative, they will just take a page from Rush Limbaugh's playbook and claim the stats have been inflated in order to advance an agenda and hurt Trump's reelection efforts. This is the modern day Republican Party. It is the party of conspiracy theorists and disinformation campaigns.
So then the models are just wrong, correct? I’m fine with saying the media isn’t using this as a way to get Trump but that means the models were wrong along with all of the corresponding doom and gloom from the media and Dems. Also wrong, was the unending accusations of Trump not responding appropriately and not being well enough prepared. It turns out we are over prepared, even in New York.

If Obama were still President and said the same thing, would we have this outrage? I highly doubt it. It's not about what was said, it's about Trump, which is stupid. It doesn't matter who tells you about it. It doesn't change that you check with your doctor.
From Fox News, The Washington Times, The New York Post, The Daily Caller and Breitbart you would.

I have to say that there is some hypocrisy in this line of thinking. Trump certainly won't admit that he was wrong in minimizing the threat of the coronavirus to the American people in February. In fact, he will now deny that he even did minimize it, in spite of the video evidence to the contrary. My question is, why would you hold the media to a higher standard than you hold him? Does Trump make it a practice of admitting when he was wrong and his critics were right?

Nancy Pelosi visits San Francisco’s Chinatown to encourage people amid fears of coronavirus

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was in San Francisco on Monday spending several hours visiting Chinatown to encourage people to visit the shops and restaurants there amid fears of the coronavirus.

Pelosi also took this opportunity to encourage people to come back to Chinatown.

“You should come to Chinatown. Precautions have been taken by our city. We know there is concern about tourism throughout the world but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hopefully, others will come,” Pelosi said.

So the professionals don't know sh!t except they shouldn't be going around touting something unsubstantiated like Trump did.

My point is that, this strain makes for so many difficult problems. Had it been like 1918 version, killing 1 in every 36 humans, people would have been hiding in their basements and not needed encouragement to isolate. Instead, it kills mainly old people and sick people and at the end of the day kills about 0.8% of everyone infected. A bad number, but not so bad that everyone wants to run and hide from it.

Just a technicality but it also isn’t a flu (or a different strain) like those. And that does mean something in terms of its spread rate.

What doctor told him about it, and why don’t we hear it from them? Trump can’t even say the name without sounding like he’s having a stroke.

She should be charged with crimes against humanity for encouraging people to come out, putting themselves at risk during the pandemic

Is Pelosi now claiming that she was calling the coronavirus a pandemic before anyone else did?
