I've heard the same thing from coworkers daughter (who actually is my Nurse Practitioner I normally see) she said they've had tons of people presenting with Flu like symptoms and testing negative for the flu and the medication that they gave didn't help either

Really makes you wonder..I’m huge on conspiracy theories as it is

I do a lot of social distancing. In fact to encourage others to do the same around me I’ve adopted a diet that makes me fart a lot. I spend a lot of time touching my face and forehead with my hand. I know the experts advise against that but for my whole life I’ve almost never gotten sick. I’m sort of checking my temperature pretty often, you know, just in case, and I’m doing it the old fashioned way. What I discovered is that when I working on research, building models, or preparing data tables or charts, my forehead tends to heat up a bit, then when I take a break it cools back down. So for anyone experiencing similar symptoms, my advice is don’t think too hard about stuff and you should be fine. jmo.

I think this might be another innovative approachView attachment 269790
...well....we have known that was coming for a long time now....lol...Coen bros were ahead of their time................

And this is with the semi-aggressive shutdown and a very small number of cases. Image what would happen if exponential growth was allowed without challenge.

Of course it's possible the virus would spontaneously mutate in 1M people simultaneously, and be rendered less lethal than the common cold. Did I do that right?

No, you didn't. That would be awesome.

The best argument is that we just let the old and "sick" go ahead and die since they were going to anyway...eventually.

1% is literally millions of lives.
Again, death is an inevitable part of life. Disease, famine, and war have been part of the human experience since the beginning. It sucks but to put society on hold over this is insane in my opinion. It’s an infringement of civil liberties and a waste of time considering that all the quarantine does is prolong the spread. Hell I just saw that the CDC director said this could last for two years. No way in hell are we going to be able to continue operating like this for two f***ing years.

At risk people should be allowed to stay home and receive whatever benefits they need, but the rest of us should be allowed to continue on with our lives as we normally would

yep. problem is while nothing anyone says impacts anything, when those beliefs drive actions contrary to what is being asked of people to stop/slow the spread, then it does.....

i think it's a good conversation to have (i'd be a hypocrite if i said otherwise at this point lol) if for no other reason, it may get a few people to at least look at it a bit differently than they had before. i'll be honest, i've "rethunk" it a couple of times over the past month or so.....

and i would hope more people would keep a relatively open mind about it, because there is so much about this that is still in the "learning" stage, that things are, and will, change...what they said yesterday, changes today....some of htat has already happened...lol. so understanding that we don't know what we don't know.....when we do, it's worth a listen....

like today...apparently we all need masks now. that's great. good timing. lol.....bandana sales thru the roof, amazon can't keep 'em on the shelf! lol.

Mentioned it last night but I think that despite the complaining, the RF is probably being responsible.

Still like having the conversation, just ready for general agreement that full hospitals has to be addressed, in place of just an age group. Same with non safety rates are not going to be the same as with the current measures. It's just basic math but I'm interested in the next part of the discussion that we can't seem to reach.

I get the feeling many of those quoted are academics. I suggest talking to doctors who are actually treating patients, even in those locations where the virus is not prevalent.

Dr. Scott Morris, who founded the Church Health Center here, was on radio last week telling people to follow all guidelines because it was serious. This is a guy who started this foundation for people with no insurance. He isn’t profiting from insurance companies. He is providing a non-profit service and would probably prefer not to be working non-stop and exposing himself. He said they were using up much of their equipment. He said the numbers will rise, but if people follow the measures, they will be able to prevent much more spread.

These are the people in which to discuss the topic. Unless he gets notoriety, he has no monetary gain in it.

Edit: And...the highest percentage of getting it in Shelby County is the 21-30 age range. Now, Shelby County has only had 7 deaths out of almost 700 confirmed cases. But it’s not effecting just the elderly.
That is not all that is "getting" it, because a huge number that do "get" it will never even get tested, because they never even feel sick..and worse....anybody can "get" it and spread it.

I take it you think there would be enough hospital beds for all those folks that just want to get on with their lives?

yeah, it's hard to see past a 24 hour window right now.

a) the "numbers" game doesn't reall change, until it changes...so you just have to wait and see what else happens before any of the projections mean all that much in reality.
b) there are no immediate results, which, we as Americans, really struggle with.........................................
c) most are, even if they don't really know it to be true, looking at this whole thing from the prism of "me". and i don't mean that to say everyone's selfish and heartless, but as we look at ratios....which group do "I" fall in? age? medical predispostion? travel? just how much at risk am it? am i in the Big number, or little number's group? so as the numbers keep coming in, projections change one way or the other, even if unconsciously, people can't help but to sometimes believe their chances of making it thru this thing unscathed, go down...and maybe that's not becuase of direct impact by the virus, but it's economic? or financial? or social/mental health? or maybe they have other serious medical issues that can't/won't get the attention it needs?

anyway...........the psychology here is also kinda fascinating....

to your last point, that result is reliant on a culmination of time, effort and coordination by the public....so it's hard to say as you're going thru it that it's either helping, hurting or all of, or none of, the above....

basically, we can't get out of our own way...no matter what we do....lol.

we be like.............

If it slows the spread, that means it will stop the spread sooner. Not that tough to figure out.

Key word in there 14% of KNOWN cases require hospitalization..That number is nowhere close to 14% in true cases...BUT..It is a lot of people either way because of lack of immunity+ ease of infection...those two factors take a "meh" thing and make it a "oh holy crap" thing.

Either way it is scary because it is a mathematical certainty that barring you living in a bunker for a year...you and your family WILL come into contact with this, and probably infected to one degree or another before a vaccine is available.

It sucks, but that is the truth...if anybody here thinks we are stopping it now..we are not, we are just making it take longer.

Yeah, our opinions really aren't that far off.
I definitely included "known" for that reason, have zero interest in sensationalizing. But it's still an uncomfortable on my end . Folks that avoided smoking, vaping, put in extra time and money for cleaner air filters and so on. Then being rewarded with lung damage to varying degrees of those less responsible. Pretty crappy deal but.. some is inevitable :/

I've accepted dragging it out *to an extent*. Just long enough to catch up on needed supplies. You're right, there has to be a limit on the time of these restrictions. We just need to use that time wisely on preparedness.
We got punched in the mouth and weren't ready for it, at all.
