Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I want to be serious for just a moment and give everyone a word of caution. The next 2 weeks will seem very unsettling. It will seem like there is a runaway train of infection and death hitting our country. The media will sensationalize it to the extreme.
The context of what we will witness is really a perfect storm of 3 things:
1. continued spread of infection (even if slowed by sheltering),
2. increased testing results in increased positives (even if the percentage of infection remains flat),
3. increased mortality due to the normal time between contracting the virus and the time it takes those at risk to succumb. The exponential growth in cases over the last two weeks means more deaths will occur.

Exposure to the virus does not guarantee infection. Infection does not guarantee a fight for you life.

Please keep your wits about you. Try not to buy into any hysteria pushed by the media. Consider the context of the numbers you hear about. We are almost over the crest of this wave. But it may seem very bleak in the coming days.

There's probably going to turn out to be a correlation at some level due to comorbidities, that's true. But it could probably be expressed in a less antagonistic way, I'd agree.
It's interesting. Poorer people are statistically more likely to be unhealthy, that's true. One conclusion you can draw from that is that they don't have great healthcare or health insurance. Poorer people are also statistically more likely to have unhealthy habits too, like smoking and poor eating. And let's be real...you don't smoke or eat unhealthy food because you're poor. Cigarettes aren't cheap, and fast food isn't cheap compared to going to the grocery store.

Might as well get ready. There’s going to be another round of stimulus get pushed and they’re going to brand it as an infrastructure bill while they try for every big government idea from reparations to green new deal to healthcare etc.
Yep. Just print some more.

We get the echo chamber stuff but damn it gets old after a while . The whole “
Living in an ivory tower and yelling down at the masses “ about systemic racism and reparations crap , is just old .

Yeah, I guess. the word isn't the problem, it's the connotations of the word. If she'd left it out, her point might have had some level of penetration. But again, she isn't speaking to the world.

And there are numerous clinical trials right now for drugs that show promise in lessening the severity of the virus. Nothing seems to be a cure, or mitigates every case, but there is a lot of good data that will lower the number of people going on respirators.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

I heard an anecdote about a patient in his 20s who was about to go to the ICU and they tried remdesivir and the patient responded so quickly they ended up not needing to be put on a respirator after all.
