Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

No speaker of the house has ever directly assumed the presidency.
So that makes being third in line inconsequential? You're making it hard to take you seriously with such absurd comments. You got caught in a dumb statement, and much like you accuse Trump of doing, you decided to dig the hole deeper. Kudos on being what you claim to hate.

how so? how are there different metrics for me?
Take a look at what you post and the standards that you set for certain people on one side or the other depending on which one you feel closer represents your ideology.

Be honest, all of us do it to some extent, some more than others and when I say that, I don't necessarily mean you. I find your posts fairly reasonable with thought behind them, we just disagree on some things and that's OK with me. We see things differently for probably good reasons. It doesn't mean either of us are wrong or either of us right.

There are other posters, on both sides of the extreme, who seem to live on twitter talking points and merely parrot what they glean from the internet or certain news channels.

I think sometimes we are more concerned with "winning" an argument than actually trying to consider the merits of an other's position that is an apparent conflict with our own beliefs.

And so it goes.

Got the email I was dreading

Top tier of my company (owners/VPs/Directors) 30% pay cut
Managers (me) 15% pay cut
Hourly employees cut hours to at best 4 days a week

Praying for you brother and your employees. Our company hasn’t gotten to that point yet but there are some behind the scenes things that are pointing in that direction. Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point but if so we will make it through it and I am sure you guys will as well.

No, Trump was still in his downplay mode. He was full of $hit as usual.
The posters early on in this thread, not all who are Trumpers, found agreement that assurance to the public was the best route. Many were concerned with public panic, hoarding, etc. Have to say in restrospect, there was a lot of wisdom in that approach.

Reading through this thread last night from page 1, I was surprised at how ho hum the initial response was. All this dire stuff was coming out of China through social media. Xi was giving assurances left and right it was under control. The WHO had to issue a formal apology for not taking the threat to the world serious enough at the start of this. Even learned China denied entry from our CDC to assist at "ground zero" in the first few weeks.
By the time it was publicly known it could be transmitted person to person, the cards were dealt. There was no going back.
Yup.

I just cant reconcile in my head why this is treated so differently then any other outbreak.

Besides the Spanish Flu I dont know of other major outbreaks of new diseases. But were presidents ever blamed then? I dont have much social commentary from the 20s but not seeing WW name get tossed around.

Thank you, worst part is telling my guys they won't be getting a full paycheck for a while
McRib has done her best at keeping therapists, therapy assistants, and admin staff working in other areas of need right now. But it is inevitable many are about to be hit hard economically.

Let's say the economy stays down, and as a result, Biden gets elected. Does anyone, and I'd like to hear the honest opinion of those on the left, think Biden rebuilds the economy? I don't it myself, but I guess it could happen. But if it doesn't, it probably results in Republicans retaking the WH in 2024.
I think he wont make a difference just like Obama. The economy will come back on it's own since he isnt anti business and anti wealth like most far left democrats. A Sandera presidency would have been Americas death knell.

Trump said this gem on Tuesday March 17th:

"This is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic." - Donald Trump

Perhaps Trump brings more scrutiny on himself than other politicians, because he not only can't admit when he was wrong, but he also tries to rewrite history with lies?
4 years in and you are still listening to Trump and hanging on to his every word? Are you like stuck in your own personal groundhog day?

You are giving presidents way too much credit for control over the economy. In both directions, and to both parties.

It doesn't take much after an event like this to stifle the economy, just look at how ACA delayed recovery from the 2009 recession. This is going to be 10x worse so mere mention of increasing taxes, more regulation, a new healthcare plan will bring more uncertainty to the business world and slow recovery. Biden will attempt all 3.

I'll tell you how bad it is. When Trump tweeted out the pictures from the briefing with the CDC team and assured the public the team was the best and working very hard, CNN politics ran a story the next day lamenting the problem that the team lacked diversity. Looking back, it is the most surreal out-of-place take away I think I have ever seen.
