Yep I remember that really hurt Steve Earle...he never really fit into a genre so he didn't get the radio play unless he wrote songs tailored to one or the other.of which he wouldnt do.. I've heard same from guys from Tesla and Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes of being forced to "write to the radio"

He's come in and out of public attention many times over the years. Around the same time as the Johnny Cash renaissance in the 00s, it was very common to see PRINE bumper stickers around Nashville. I've seen him play in bars in the 90s and sells outs at the Ryman and Schemerhorn in the 00s and 10s. People seem to discover and rediscover his stuff in waves.

Prine is an amazing songwriter – Souvenirs, Spanish Pipedream, Sweet Revenge, Angel from Montgomery, Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You into Heaven Anymore and too many more to count. Hope he pulls through this.

There was a singer/songwriter, John D. Loudermilk, and probably most of us forgot about if we ever heard of him. I recorded a segment of KSBK radio (Okinawa) back in the late 60's, and over the years replayed the tape and there a catchy song, but I had a terrible time figuring out the girl's name - which was the title - Angela Jones. I thought I remembered a song by Loudermilk when I was in HS, and that he was local to Nashville (at least then). but I can't figure out what it would have been. He died in Christiana (just outside Murfreesboro) in 2016. The list of hit songs he wrote is pretty impressive - includes Tobacco Road, Cherokee Nation, Abilene, Ebony Eyes. There's always so much talent that many of us have never discovered because they aren't simply one variety or another when it comes to their music.
