Yep I remember that really hurt Steve Earle...he never really fit into a genre so he didn't get the radio play unless he wrote songs tailored to one or the other.of which he wouldnt do.. I've heard same from guys from Tesla and Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes of being forced to "write to the radio"I could get used to songs like that. It's a shame that a lot of singers are pigeon holed and we never seem to be introduced to their work.
He's come in and out of public attention many times over the years. Around the same time as the Johnny Cash renaissance in the 00s, it was very common to see PRINE bumper stickers around Nashville. I've seen him play in bars in the 90s and sells outs at the Ryman and Schemerhorn in the 00s and 10s. People seem to discover and rediscover his stuff in waves.Sam Stone
