Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Did he say he hoped for it, or that it would be worth it? I mean I don't hope for my truck to spontaneously combust, but It might end up being worth it if the replacement is more to my suiting.
I really don’t see how anyone could love politicians that much where they would be willing to suffer an economic downturn.

Maybe, in his perfect scenario, the economy was subsequently so great that everyone lived happily ever after.

That's what I choose to believe.... and only the worst strawmen suffered, but just a little.

Guess I'm just skeptical of an offer of guaranteed suffering for the promise of future less suffering

au contraire - I've not only made it but my like of your post was intended to show I took you at your word.

I believe I'm not wrong though in contending you believe it would be worth it.
I certainly believe it would be worth it, but it's not my first choice.
I don't want my finger to be amputated.
I don't want my arm to be amputated.
But if the only way to save my arm from amputation was to amputate my finger, it would be an unfortunate but easy choice.

It's your finger and arm. Unfortunately what you think would be "worth it" involves almost everyone's fingers and arms.

Try amputating your head at the shoulders, do a solid for us.

Still employed for the time being, we supply manufacturers, very, very few are still running. They are doing some maintenance at their facilities and we still have the water and electrical utilities and highway departments are still running bare bones so there is a little business. We are dead at work though, nothing to do, I can't believe they haven't let me go yet. I count myself fortunate when so many others are without at this stressful time.

I would make the same decision for my kids or my wife. Losing a finger is horrible, but much better than losing your arm.
