There is no doubt that the Chinese haven’t been an open book on this. And, a muted lunar new year did occur, largely outside of Hubei. But this actually leads me to question just how much the Chinese government actually understood about what was happening (vs provincial authorities). If you look at the extreme measures that were rolled out shortly thereafter including outside Hubei, there was a clear intent to stop the spread. But that didn’t happen for weeks. I suspect because the central government was fairly in the dark as well. And they were figuring out exactly what the scope was going to be.

And what's crazy is if this pandemic puts us in a depression and the left is running things... This country is doomed. FDR proved the government can't spend our way out of something like that. People going to work is what gets you out of that.

The preamble provides the very principles that justify the creation of the Bill of Rights. Of course the principles on which all else is built is of more importance. (As we are now seeing)

I don't completely disagree with your take but how do you explain the media being removed?

A study can be conducted where random population is screened through serology testing for antibodies. We’ll get hindsight on it eventually.

Yes. Until then we are risk averse flying blind. I'm not criticizing but as Birx comments pointed out the models are not matching reality and decisions have been made on models being correct. I'm glad to hear the team is open to adapting policy as reality becomes more clear.

I’m not very knowledgeable of that. Who removed them (central govt vs province?), when did they do it, and from where?

I guess what I’m ultimately saying is that I think the Chinese were also lying to themselves. Some mixture of actual lies (the province hiding the severity from the central government) and soft lies of wishcasting it to be not as bad as it is going to be (something we’ve also been guilty of at times, IMO).
