Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I think the problem is that by the time an infected person requires a ventilator, which is why they need to be in an ICU, moving the patient isn't an option.

If there were a way to predict which patients were going to ultimately need a ventialtor, then I suppose patients could be moved. I just see moving patients as being a nightmare of logistics. Bringing ventilators, medical personell, and equipment to the hot spots seems more feasible, but if the virus can't be contained it all goes to hell anyway.

It’s a good point. Build the extra rooms, bring in the beds, bring in the vents. That seems to be the strategy.

Yeah. we don't have protective gear for transport teams, much less for multitudes of ambulatory infected patients. The emergency facilities are being erected, but apparently medical staff and equipment are the shortfalls. Volunteers are stepping up on the personnel side, though.

President Trump should call a PC and explain to the American public that until the dimocrats decide they support this country he will not sign any law that doesn't 100% help the American people.

Not Millions for the Kennedy Center, not for PBS & NPR, not for congressional raises, not for any green new deal b.s.

The machismo just seems silly when the statement stands for itself. There is no need to revisit.

Now if you want to ask me if I think that’s what WILL happen, then that’s tougher. I saw a study today on chloroquine but it was only 30 patients. The outcome was a wash with patients doing slightly better without it. I’m not sure if that included the co-dosed z-pack though. Hospitals are just getting more overloaded so I don’t see ability to deliver care improving over the next week. And infections haven’t slowed yet. The patients who got infected with SARS-CoV-2 late last week are the ones that will be developing COVID-19 this late this week and dying next week.

So based on that I’m worried that we will indeed cross the 5,000 mark by the middle of next week. I’m hoping that the week after that we will begin to see quarantine efforts pay off and slow the rising death rate.
I have been trying to find info on if anything is working such as chloroquine but it is difficult to do.... all the articles are either slanted against trump or slanted for trump...... it’s so hard to actually find real info.

I know you're of the opinion that the response in America has been a severe overreaction. I don't know if that is right or wrong. I do wonder why every country to experience this has taken such draconian measures to combat it. I was up late when this was being covered on the overnight Asian market coverage on Bloomberg (only channel that covers Asian markets overnight) in mid January, and the reporters in Asia were describing actions that I simply couldn't reconcile with the numbers being reported. At that time I remember China was only reporting hundreds sick. Look back through this thread from post 250 - 300 (specifically post 268). Look at the actions China was taking to limit spread when only a few hundred were sick. Now I don't believe their numbers, but their actions to limit spread were certainly not commensurate with the numbers being reported.

I am not a chicken little personality, but there is still something about this that simply doesn't add up. Why would every country go to such lengths to stop this? Why would India lock down 1.3B people with four hours notice when there are less than 1,000 sick there? Why would the largest companies, industries, and sports leagues on the planet stop in their tracks? As much as these companies and countries like money, I simply can't reconcile why they would do this if this wasn't a serious threat.

I'm not posting this as an argument, because, again, I don't know what the right answer is. But when I see the response from around the world in both the public and private sector, it seems like there is something that we are missing. Just my two cents.

There is alot that doesnt seem to add up. China's numbers are useless. Their behavior is worth noticing. Still all kinds of things dont seem to add up.

There is no way I believe this just got here a few weeks ago. I dont understand how a country similar in population and density, India, and sitting right beside China has not already exploded with this. I dont understand such disparities in outcomes from place to place like Italy, Germany, Israel, etc.

In the most connected time in human history, I dont understand how we are so uncertain on so much of this. That uncertainty drives the panic which drives so much of this decision making.

Bickering and whining and politicizing. Sad.

Stop.

Take a breath.

Close your eyes.

Think of your family and friends and community, get off of here, go outside, do something more productive than talking in circles and insulting each other and blaming anyone and everyone concerning this virus.

China numbers are ridiculously low. Now that we’re getting a picture here in the US, comparing the images and news from China and the density of their population, there’s no way they are at only 80k cases when we’re already at almost 70k. This will end up being just another piece of propaganda for them that they did a better job addressing the issue than the rest of the world. When in fact they just lied.
