Gun control debate (merged)

Lol ..that’s the video I tried to get @bnhunt to watch to show what protection Leo’s afford you when thing go south . The worse it gets the less protection you’ll have .

Under the BEST of times protection is obviously limited. Think of every time a crime; robbery, assault, rape, murder occurs. Every single one of them took place because the LEO weren't there. This has been covered before but having a cop right there/right then before something bad happens is akin to holding a winning lottery ticket. It's not even something you can blame cops for either...it's a completely unrealistic expectation. Literally the only people you can count on being on the scene of something bad happening are the perpetrators and would be victims.

The cops have no duty to protect you in the best of times. You are always on your own. They’ll show up afterwards to draw a chalk line around your dead body though...

And the courts have ruled as much.

After the Florida school shooting rulings I dont see how people put faith in cops anymore.

Officers Had No Duty to Protect Students in Parkland Massacre, Judge Rules

Not sure why it says redirect. Link is in there for any one actually wanting to educate themselves. Which I am guessing our lawyer wont.

Why don't you go ahead and get yourself a concealed carry permit? I've thought about it, but honestly I would feel less comfortable with a gun in my pocket.

I'm sure I could but I still don't want to have to. If I feel like my life is at stake every time I walk out the door, then there is something wrong with society or with me.
Caution is not the same thing as fear though. I walk out everyday with a firearm and I am never scared or feel my life is always at stake, but I’m more than prepared if the situation arises

There’s the difference, the understanding between fear and being prepared .

I get what you're saying. But I'd guess people that carry don't "feel like their life is at stake every time they walk out the door". It's just a feeling of being prepared for whatever comes up. I'm a decent guy, at least I think I am, and I'm not going to start crap with anyone, but I can't control what the thousands of people I come into contact with do.

And I can't remember since it's been so long, but I was thinking in Tennessee if you don't have a carry permit you can't have the handgun/rifle in the same accessible area as the ammo in a vehicle? Something has to go in the trunk or truck bed to separate them I though. Carry permit solves that just as a matter of convenience if you enjoy going to the range. Or if you just want to have something in the vehicle accessible for whatever happens just in case. And in the unlikely event you have to use a gun in self defense, even if at home, I would think it might look better to all parties involved that you went through the certification process to carry legally.

But I'm probably closer to you. I've had my carry permit for 15 years now I think. I've only carried a few times. Carried around the first day after I got my permit, and I just felt like it was causing unneeded stress. Had a concealed holster and kept wondering is it visible. Is someone going to see it and clock me in the head to take it. That feeling Probably would have gone away eventually, but I worked at the airport and I knew people that had been fired for leaving a pistol or duck shotgun in their truck. I wasn't risking it. But if I want to I can.

I have considered it a lot. Almost made a rush decision to get one. But I dont own a pistol and have no real desire for one. Comfortable with them but not carrying around daily.

I thought about one for the car, but I would need to get a gun box for it as none of the smaller compartments lock. I am an all or nothing type of guy. Since I still have some doubts I am holding off. I carry a knife more often now, not sure it would have helped much in the situation (3 vs 1). But it's there.

Funnily enough this personal experience has motivated/cleared things up for me less than Trump getting elected did.

Since it's being talked about a little, how long did those that have their permits have to wait? I took my class and had everything turned in on 2-25 and as expected, I'm still waiting on it. I know results vary (especially since I'm waiting on mine during the apocalypse) but I'm curious to others experience with it

Got mine within a week in Georgia

Enhanced permit holder and I never leave home without them. One of the keys to carry is being comfortable with the location of your holster so you don’t fidget with it.
My suggestion to anyone thinking about it but unsure is find a cell phone holder/holster and drop some rolled coins in it, clip that on your belt while hanging around the house and discover how your body moves in relation to that new bulk. Move it around your belt to find the spot where you no longer really notice it and can access it with ease. That’s your carry spot.
Due to a physical limitation mine turned out to be a canted cross draw on my hip. I don’t notice it there and I’m comfortable with that draw having practiced for no muzzle sweeping using minimal noticeable movement.

You would be better off carrying a first aid kit if being prepared is your justification. Just what does a gun prepare you for? Insert Fear response here.

If you have to ask that question you obviously wouldn't even begin to understand the logical answer. You just go ahead and stay unarmed and there is absolutely nothing wrong that, plus it'll undoubtably make the rest of us safer.
