Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Growing up on a farm where we ate the chickens in the back yard, the venison in the freezer, and from the mason jars on the back porch, it is sad to see how tied people are to the grocery store.

We’d get to Murville about every other month back then and lot of what my Mom needed was baking and canning ingredients. And lots of Crisco.
Maybe it's just me, but I would have brought the chickens inside, cooked them, and eaten them at the dinner table , instead of in the backyard. Same with the venison.

Shocker. He got out over his skis on this one.

There actually is “evidence,” sort of. It’s just a small case series, not a randomized trial. But to say there is “no evidence” is also misleading.

“For instance, a study in France published on March 20 in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents described the treatment of 42 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, 26 of whom received a version of chloroquine called hydroxychloroquine and 16 of whom received routine care. Of the 20 patients who took the antimalarial and completed the study, six also received azithromycin, an antibiotic. All six of these patients were free of SARS-CoV-2 by the fifth day post-treatment, while seven of 14 patients who took hydroxychloroquine alone were negative for the virus, and two of 16 control patients were no longer infected.”

Could be, but I suppose it depends on what requirements are being suspended. If it's more of a testing fast track, that seems sensible.

Possibly, but there’s a lot more to nursing than just testing. I don’t feel like you can throw people out there in today’s world and not be held liable for so many errors that undoubtedly take place .

Crazy to read the early comments in this thread. Not even gonna out anybody out there by quoting them. I don't think anyone thought we would be here two months ago.

Anyway. I think there is a difficult discussion to be had about how to weigh people's livelihood (economy) with people's lives. However... It seems to me the quarantine is a giant waste of time if we aren't increasing masks, beds, ventilators, etc.. At any significant rate.

Hey, we tanked the economy but at least we saved a lot of lives. Too bad we aren't going to save any lives if we can't rise to the challenge of meeting the Healthcare demands.
I think part of the reason for the shutdowns are to give the healthcare system time to gear up. I dont know if you saw the picture of the Vandy med center converting part of a parking garage for the anticipated influx of patients. Also I saw where Ford motor company was going to retool to start making respirators. I think it's inevitable this thing works it through a majority of the population. They're just trying to hold it off.

We actually did cook outside a lot in the summer because it was too hot in the house, and like I said my mom cooked everything in Crisco (except for the things she cooked in her pour-off of bacon grease) so it was unbearable to cook in there in July.

Not in the back yard, though. We had a spring where we kept our watermelons cold and we'd cook out there.

I also ate a few too many meals for my comfort standing next to a tobacco barn or out cutting pulp wood. I'd prefer not to remember that part, though.

Coronavirus: Federal Judge Rules Migrants Must Stay in Detention Center

A federal judge in Seattle rejected three nonprofits’ effort to force U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release migrants in a detention center in Washington state because of the threat from coronavirus.

U.S. District Judge James L. Robart on Thursday denied a request for a restraining order requested by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the ACLU of Washington, and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. The organizations argued that holding migrants who are older or have underlying medical conditions puts them at high risk for contracting the virus.

“There is no evidence that anyone at NWDC has COVID-19, and plaintiffs do not address the measures defendants are taking to prevent such a spread from occurring,” Robart said in a Law360 article on the development.

I hope not. Plus it puts new nurses in a bad spot to be dealing with this with no learning curve.

Are the newbs heading in as front line staff or being used to free up the trained nurses. The only safe benefit I see would be the minor things, intake questions, charting vitals, answering the room dings, but only for non cv-19 type patients.

Well at least we’ve turned a corner on the daily briefings. Finally no more “xenophobe! racist!” blah blah blah BS loaded questions.

Well not thus far anyway.

This is the reason why ppl don't follow the advice given by government officials. She needs to be challenged along with all the others who have made outrageous claims.....no country in the world has even recorded 1% of their population...but NJ will have 100% catch the virus?

I'm on the train of I think the virus is bad, I think it's real, and I think a short, temporary lockdown order (except for work and groceries) could help, BUT claims such as her's are ridiculous. Heck, if we are all going to get it no matter what we do, which is more or less what she is suggesting, why take any preventative measures?

Causes heart disease. CDC probably recommends you avoid.

F the CDC I’ll die the way I want to . Eating what I want , the way my grand momma and momma made it . I cook our Corn bread in a Tennessee Vols cast iron skillet and I use the left over bacon grease to cook it with , and in . 😊
Edit : we don’t use Crisco though .. that stuff will kill you . 😂

Oh well spoke too soon. The loaded T ball setups to let him opine are just as useless and waste time in this briefing. Oh well 🤷‍♂️
