Maybe it's just me, but I would have brought the chickens inside, cooked them, and eaten them at the dinner table , instead of in the backyard. Same with the venison.Growing up on a farm where we ate the chickens in the back yard, the venison in the freezer, and from the mason jars on the back porch, it is sad to see how tied people are to the grocery store.
We’d get to Murville about every other month back then and lot of what my Mom needed was baking and canning ingredients. And lots of Crisco.
