Incident rates are incident rates, regardless of the difference in the total numbers..SK is 1/7th the size of Texas. They put smart measures in place quickly but hard to extrapolate their approach to much larger geographic areas.
With the list of states going to mandatory lockdowns growing along with the obstacles being thrown at our truckers, it's not so silly to think at some point, the supply chains will be impacted to the point we will legitimately have shortages. This country can't just shut everything down for an extended period. A recession is a certainty. A depression and civil unrest looms large. It might end up that our efforts to fight this disease might be more damaging to our society than the disease itself. The thought of this govt gaining even more power/control and centralizing it even further is a nightmare.
Yep and unless there's a means to literally screen everyone.... Then we won't ever really know the true numbers. That is what I was just about to point out...IF..this thing is as contagious as they say, which it seems to be, then there would have been millions infected...not just 250,000 in a place packed as tightly as SK is.
We have a local farm that is butchering livestock, pigs and chickens and selling direct to the public because stores are out of most fresh meat...Man, the specialized diet that I have.., everyone taking all the meat is making life rough.
I can't eat all the processed stuff or cans of beef stew, etc.. Gonna have to order whey protein or something to compensate for all these folks hoarding.![]()
Yeah..I thought about that after I posted..my brain is tired. I believe that the true number of infected will never be known because soooo many people that get infected barely have symptoms or are just asymptomatic. I hope we did not just push our way of life to the brink of destruction for nothing...They had 8,800 positive cases with 102 deaths.
@chargervol 104 fever was bad before the Rona. If you have trouble breathing go to the ER. Tennessee has a hotline for guidance. You might need to find out if South Carolina (I think I remember you saying you live there) has one. Regardless you need to be seen.
Actually, some roadblocks are being removed for truckers. As part of the emergency decloration, the dot and FMCA have relaxed hours of service rules so trucks could stay on the road longer to ensure product can get from point A to B without drivers having to go on mandatory 10 hours rest after a certain amount of time working or on the road. With the list of states going to mandatory lockdowns growing along with the obstacles being thrown at our truckers, it's not so silly to think at some point, the supply chains will be impacted to the point we will legitimately have shortages. Ill take my chances with infectious disease Doc's/Anthony Fauci/WHO/TDH/CDC and microbiologist's.For the peeps calling this a common flu:
Shared from Dr. Mayur Patel (a very credible Pulmonologist I have worked with personally). People please don’t take this lightly
Understanding COVID-19.....simply A complex disease
Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand...
It has to do with RNA sequencing.... i.e. genetics.
Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.
Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.
Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..
H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.
Fast forward.
Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”
This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.
And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..
That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.
We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.
Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...
And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.
#flattenthecurve. Stay home folks... and share this to those that just are not catching on.
I don’t understand your response here. This is not new/different information. All of those organizations/people would agree with this information.Ill take my chances with infectious disease Doc's/Anthony Fauci/WHO/TDH/CDC and microbiologist's.
I understand this is a URI, and he's a Pulmonologist....i just think people need to be educated on this.
Ive read the worst case literature. That would be catastrophic.
I have no idea what I have, been running a fever near 104 for 2 days, can't stop coughing and don't feel like moving. And the worst part, it's kicked my pancreas into high gear
This is following my son doing the same for the last week but his was much more mild, slightly lethargic, only around 100° temp but more coughing. Honestly thought it was his allergies.
Might be a severe cold or the regular flu, for all I know. But if it is the other, stats can gtfo.. this absolutely sucks.
Excellent. Go post that in the pub.For the peeps calling this a common flu:

Some people that have died are not immune compromised. A 34 year old guy from Cali that caught it while in Florida, was not immune compromised. He had childhood asthma, but healthy other than that. This is worse than the flu. Stop comparing it to the flu.Not everyone needs hospital treatment for this though. Does everyone rush to the hospital when they get the flu? No. Unless you’re 65+ or immunocompromised, then you should stay home and get rest. Sadly the 24 hour news cycle has people running around like scared retards
Asthma may not have left him “immune compromised” but it’s a pre existing condition that left his lungs extremely weak. What does covid damage? The lungs. So he was set up to dieSome people that have died are not immune compromised. A 34 year old guy from Cali that caught it while in Florida, was not immune compromised. He was also a cancer survivor. I think folks with a previous history of cancer don't fare to well. I recall a 30 something breast cancer survivor from Maryland died early on as well. Some people that have died are not immune compromised.
