Coronavirus (No politics)

OK, wait a minute. They just reported that as many as 20 million Americans could be infected and not know it. Well if that’s the case, then the infection mortality rate is less than the flu. So which is it? You can’t have it both ways. These are the scare tactics being used but they put everything else into question.
If you extrapolate the NBA test results to the society as a whole my guess is 15-30 million have or have had COVID-19. That makes the mortality rate much less than the flu. Most of the NBA players showed no symptoms. All of these doomsday scenarios were never going to happen because the real mortality rate was overblown from the onset.

On your first example, nope. Although perhaps they should be required to post a sign at the door notifying potential customers of the unsanitary conditions.

Your second example isn't even close to being analogous to what's happening currently. A gas leak would obviously be an immediate danger to anybody in the building.

You do realize this whole thing essentially started with unsanitary food right?

They were supposed to go at selected times here in Oregon and we were to stay away which we did. We go at times that they suggested and most were elderly. So they didn’t listen. It had nothing to do with them eating so no to your snarky remark.

I work with the elderly, and as I’ve stated in another forum, I don’t think they understand the severity of the virus to them yet. A lot of them have lived through wars, rations, recessions, and a small group, the depression. We as a younger generation, have to have compassion, guide and help them, to understand what this could do to them.

I am conservative and have no issue with what some areas are having to do. Just wait until it hits home.

I went to work this week but limited my exposure in many ways. I normally see a lot of people each week. Worked, went home, was out one day for lunch and went to a few stores for food, etc. However, I found out two of my colleagues had dinner with a friend last week, and that friend later found out he had previously been exposed to someone who tested positive. There you go.

I’m of the age that I can handle it, but I haven’t seen my parents in almost a week and can’t help them with anything. I have 4 kids at home. To those complaining, you have to show sympathy to others. Not everyone understands how this could spread.

It sucks for small businesses. But it is a public safety issue. So why don’t you go order out at a local restaurant every night? The timing of this could impact our healthcare system. By the way, the government is not going to be any closer to a socialist society than before. That’s nonsense to me. JMO.

.gov needs to disseminate the information and suggestions to the public and let the public decide accordingly.

I don't want to be presumptuous because there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding this, but it is definitely a possibility that the mortality rate for this could be equal, if not less, than that of the flu.

Dont get so hung up on mortality rate. The bigger concern is a rapid influx of patients overwhelming the hospitals.

The hospital my wife works is already near capacity with regular old flu, pneumonia, stroke, heart acttack, etc patients. Those people are still being admitted everyday.

Now imagine a massive influx of COVID patients needing intensive care come in? suddenly decisions about who lives and dies based on resources are being made. The mortality rate for everything is put i to question.

Looking at the most recent US numbers, I’m still feeling as if the doomsday scenario..... just isn’t going to happen. New York has by far the most positive cases, almost half of the total known cases in the country, which makes sense because as a state, they have been ahead of the curve with testing action/availability, even if it’s still not happening fast enough for everyone’s satisfaction. They now have 5x more positive cases than Washington state, but Washington state has still had almost 2x as many deaths, and almost half of those deaths came from one nursing home. I have no factual data that says Washington state has ramped up their testing. I would think they have, just because of how bad they got hammered coming out of the gate, but maybe it’s still not readily available there. Regardless, only 2 new cases reported there, and best I can count, only 5 deaths this week. To me, it appears they’re maybe through the worst of it.

Nope. Washington State is pulling in tons of National Guard and designating “essential personnel” with car stickers. Appears they’re getting ready to lockdown the area and you won’t be able to move about without that sticker. My Niece lives there and she told me that info on a call this afternoon. Folks there think the ARNG is in place for when they finally release the numbers of tested positive cases and folks freak out.

I'm assuming you didnt mean to use "eradicate". Plaquenil may help, but it's far from a benign drug. Having said that available quantities are very low at this point.

YES. Eradicate . Get rid of it. If that drug combo works, then we should see the end of that crap.

I disagree. They're doing this because they have to babysit for the idiots. When you have college kids by the thousands on the beach not doing what the government politely ask you to do they will have no problem enforcing what you do.

If everyone would realize staying in 2 or 3 weeks is for our own good besides thinking we are being Hilterized we will be back to normal sooner than later. People like these college kids not listening are going to guarantee this lasts in to fall when we might be able to knock it out in 2 months.

I totally agree. Why didn't Florida close the beaches? Oh , It's MONEY. Well let's see what that brings us all.

Well my work is gonna be shutting down as of tomorrow night. Looks like most places are shutting down soon. Surreal

One of the factories in Gallatin is starting layoffs within the next couple days. About 300 people out of work, 3 weeks ago they were hiring.
