As with any firearm, practice, practice, practice. Although, as a first time gun owner, you may find that 9mm (and all ammo) is hard to get right now.

There's this gadget called the Mantis out there now that is really neat for dry fire practice. They actually have them that can work for live fire also but a newer (and cheaper) one called the x2 that is dry fire only for under $100. Pretty neat. Let's you better practice without a range or need to use up ammo. (Though one really should mix in live fire as well)
