Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Few if any companies could justify having massive stocks of surgical masks and our government doesn’t have the best history with foresight. Couple that with the fact we just don’t make that **** domestically anymore what do you expect?
Leave it to capitalism to F us all. Maybe if the government required mandatory community stockpiles, we wouldn't have this problem. The reason those masks are not made here is purely profit driven.

They aren't shutting down everything quite yet. My company is one defined as critical infrastructure by DHS and we will keep rolling in trans and warehousing. There have been changes made for sure but extra large warehouses have a way of creating social distancing by themselves
I long for the good old days as a trim carpenter when I was in a house by myself. Now I'm surrounded by pansies.
People should take reasonable precautions but it’s idiotic to call for a complete shutdown of the country. We are a JIT society now and shutting everything down for 3-4 weeks will kill more people than this bug.
my institution sucked at JIT before this all started.

An extreme measure, but basically what both China and Italy have done.

The crazy/stupid thing to me is how ill-prepared we are as a nation for this. We can't find surgical masks, much less full protective gear. Yet we just heard from Pence yesterday dancing around the fact that we just don't have them, before making some ham-handed claim that these items are readily available. Total BS.

Hindsight and whatnot, and we may have the bestest and most greatest military, but as far as national security, we might as well be pre-Colombian America.

Yes, truly strange how unprepared we were to do something we never ever do.

They need to just use one mask for the entire shift and have that RN/tech manage that one patient....falls under correct PPE standards and saves the supplies
The mask is not allowed to leave the room..... how do you designate an RN to take care of an individual patient?

It’s more just a straight up failure of imagination. I don’t think it ever entered anybody’s mind that something like this could ever be so widespread. It’s easy to second guess, but it’s impossible and paralyzing to prepare for something that nobody thinks is possible.

Maybe we will get the clue? You know... biological warfare is a thing that's been around a while.

It is just whining at this point.

99% of people cant just hole up in their house for a month at a moment's notice. So to be overly critical of every business and govt office struggling to perform process X or acquire Y goods, is just nonsense.

Then explain to me why I had to lug around all the NBC gear while in the field in the military? To say nobody could predict something like this is ignoring the known knowns.

I get it, but logistically it’s a lot easier to equip a soldier than to equip the general public.

No it's not whining... jeebus. Your attitude has been consistent, but if actions are not taken, like now, to start producing PPE, we are just asking for what you are saying isn't worth the effort.

I'm assigned patients, I end up in several rooms though. They do designate an RN and Ncp to those in airborne precautions. If they code, different story.
I know they assign you patients but every hospital I’ve ever worked at..... you have to deal with several different patients..... we are part of a hospital system and that is the guidelines that we are held too.

I've seen this type of thing pop up around the world for decades now. It was more probable than impossible.

The underlined being the operative phrase. Probably some hubris in thinking this was a 3rd world issue held us back.

Gee, when a large scale issue occurs, who knew problems would pop up and who knew that there would be people who would say "Why weren't we better prepared? Why didn't we have more of this and more of that? What were you thinking?"

Pick your incident, earthquake, hurricane, tsunami, wild fire, pandemic.

All the finger pointers around here but how many masks and PPE did they personally stockpile for their own use?

If people ever get to actually meet in a room after this, there is going to be plenty of “Why didn’t we think of....”

Not just saying this to trash Trump, but the WH Pandemic Office, might have had his ear on this. We have the ability to supply ourselves with virtually everything, but not if that meeting isn't happening and a decision is agreed upon.
