It’s not about guns or shooting people. It’s about lawlessness. When it goes public that communities are not arresting people for a variety of common crimes it sets off a free for all mindset. I live in a community where this is unlikely, but if I lived in Philadelphia, Baltimore or another city where there would be a strong possibility of mass looting or other crimes I would certainly take whatever measures necessary to protect my family and property.
