Coronavirus (No politics)

Have you just received testing kits or have you had kits for a while?
Starting last week, testing was available (very limited) at the NC state lab, so it was reserved for critical patients, which we had none. At the end of last week, LabCorp started offering tests with a 3-4 day turnaround (because it’s a send out to LabCorp, not ran in-house) that we are running now, as indicated. We’re a small, rural hospital, so we have sent out five tests so far this week.

I have never heard of it being used for viral prophylaxis, but it has been used as malaria prevention for decades. Geriatric ID is not my specialty though.

Looked at the study. Maybe it will work? That being said that's all anecdotal unknowns. I will say this though...I am enjoying a gin and tonic right now which has a very moderate amount of quinine and I'm feeling pretty immune.

An intern at Vanderbilt where my girlfriend works tested positive. She worked with them Saturday, and she was tested and sent home pending results since she has a cough.

She gave me so much **** saying I would be the one to give it to her since I work in an ER and she works in the pharmacy. She’s never going to live this down haha.

With "23 and Me" and "AncestryDNA", that's pretty much already been done voluntarily on a large part of the population. I'm sure gov already has or can get access to those services.
23 and me disclaims that they wont hand it over to the government. Not sure about ancestry

With every American submitting to a test , would we be giving a big , country wide sample of DNA to the government as well ? Heck , may solve some crimes

Since the 90’s, anyone in the military, including their spouse and kids, that has gotten treatment at a military medical facility has already provided that DNA sample.

That actually sounds really good... Haven't had one of those in quite a while!

some kids will be at school systems that consider them graduated from high school whereas others will not consider them graduated. How many recruits would be affected? Talk among yourselves, I'll hang up and listen.

My sister in law I mentioned a few days ago who worked for tge Dr that didn't wanna test, she's now at home from work. They finally tested the same patient, and she was positive. So everyone there has went for days interacting like normal after someone who is positive has been in their office 3 times.

Good grief.

Hows the wife Joe?

That's terrible. Is the entire office being quarantined? If they were not using full PPE while taking care of the patient, they should be.

She says they're not all quarantined right now, or as of when she left yesterday. There were state people there, or someone, pitching a fit at the way that Dr handled the whole thing. She figures he's gonna be in some trouble. She called my wife several days ago complaining because this lady was saying she had been exposed, but he refused to test her. He was afraid if she had it, then they'd be shut down.

Great to hear. Sounds like she got her procedure just in time. ORs are scaling back immediately to conserve resources.
Yeah, they actually called yesterday and moved hers up because they had cancelled all non essential surgeries there.

Well, that's sorry as hell. Now look how many people have been needlessly exposed. The whole office should be quarantined.

Told my wife the same. Her daughter had friends over, and they've all likely taken it back to their house. Not to mention anywhere she's shopped, or ate out at.

(7) 3/18: As far as covid-19 symptoms I have felt as good today as I have felt during the whole ordeal. I am 60 to 70%. I am hoping my turn for the worse phase was Saturday and Sunday since everything I have read points to a turn for the worse phase happening between day 7 to 12. I had periods of fatigue and a little bit of shortness of breath but only when I over did it on the chores. I have had this "raw" feeling from my sinuses to my bronchial tubes all day. I think this is more due to the pollen combined with two deep nasal swabs the day before, when I went outside to get the garbage and mail it felt like I was inhaling sawdust. I have continued super dosing vitamin C. Today was the first day that I actually felt hungry instead of forcing myself to eat. Wine supply is running low and the next delivery I can get is next week. I am not sure yet what I am going to do about that. No test results. Symptoms: "Raw" sinuses, minor shortness of breath, minor fatigue.

To those asking about job situations. I work in a field that should not be majorly affected by the shutdown and my company has already extended the work from home program for at least two weeks, but with my situation they may have been a few days too late. Even though I have the option to work from home this week I have taken the week off.

I mentioned the exact same thing to the nurses that tested me, up until the covid-19 test they had cloth masks and gloves but nothing else. We where in a small room and they fully examined me like I didn't have it. As soon as I tested negative for the flu they went partial hazmat. I told them it was a little too late for that and they agreed and started venting to me about how they have been complaining about the same thing.
