Coronavirus (No politics)

Sorry to hear about your ordeal Maotai. Hopefully, your recoveries continue. If you feel comfortable, I'd be interested to know your results.

I have shared too much to leave everyone hanging. I will post my results when I get them. I was told at least 3 days and that most were taking more than 3. I also asked what I might have if I am negative for covid-19 and she said it was most likely a pneumonia and the tests for that start at around 2k and insurance usually does not cover it.

I should also let everyone know they should evaluate their work place when keeping them up-to-date. I work in a medical fieldish environment so my work is really following HIPAA guidelines but my wife's work is not and everyone in the place knows. They have been having debates about how everyone thinks/doesn't think we have it.

It's not just millennials. If everyone will take a break from putting themselves first in everything, we might just avoid a situation like you are seeing in parts of Europe. The current behavior in the US does not suggest that is likely.

I’m still watching and looking for any indication that this thing is going to, at any point, take a hard turn south. It’s been here (at least) two months and we’re not seeing the death numbers or severity of symptoms leading to overload of our hospitals on the scale of China or Italy. Washington state is still responsible for approximately 30% of the fatalities.

Some modeling on how severely healthcare capacity could be overwhelmed without mitigation and suppression strategies. I hope people will take notice now so there aren’t people needlessly dying because we were too lazy to take the time to understand the impact of our decisions.

Give it time

As long Doc McStuffins, Princess Celestia, Elsa, or Batman have already been exposed, they are exempt from the PPE requirements.

I was thinking more from just a “see, Elsa is in her protective gear” comforting aspect.

I will gladly admit to large amounts of makeshift medicine on a stuffed kitty to calm anxiety. Masks from paper towels and rubber bands. A blunt embroidery needle, aquarium tube and a tiny ziplock with med tape became kitty’s IV. Just to name a couple.😂

Well said. Best case: we heed the recommendations, take our lumps, and see a quick rebound in the economy and a return to normal in a couple of months. Worst case: we are reckless and we experience hospitals overrun, care rationing, and needless loss of life.

Thank you all for continued thoughtful discussion.

We have our tricks, but kids are pretty smart! Two year olds are fun.

I read the Tweet thread about the Imperial College’s simulations and I couldn’t not laugh at this one reply.

I think some people are having a hard time accepting that worst case is really possible.

I was skeptic a month ago. I’ve come around quick on the last week or so.

Yes they are! I had to do those things when she was between two and five, with her assistance as the nurse of course. It’s still her mandatory requirement that grams be at any doctor visits, but now at eight I can talk her through it.

We wore our masks out for an unavoidable errand last week and all it took was, hey you know you’ll be wearing one of these as a veterinarian when you grow up. Boom, she was all about it. Lol

3 locations in Indiana including the county next to me have put forward travel bans. Only wanting you to be on the road for work, to get groceries, or family/medical issues. Not a fan of this communism honestly.
This will be just like the government power grab following 9/11. People better be prepared to stand up for themselves.

I posted in the other thread, but the hospital we're at is being very cautious. They are screening everyone, and only allowing one person with each patient.

I have the same feelings as you. My husband came home from a trip to Florida and didn’t feel good Sunday nite. He went to work Monday and began to feel feverish, severe stomach cramping. Got into his dr and dr thought appendicitis or diverticulitis. Sent us to hospital for ct scan. Hospital was in lockdown mode, they’ve had patient with covid. Had to show them his order and they wouldn't let me in at all, which I somewhat expected. I did not expect security on the outside of the hospital walking around, as I was outside just walking, getting steps in.

Husband ok, bad case of diverticulitis.

My 83 year old father with auto immune disease and cancer who has to come up here to dr 2x weekly for shot/blood test, came by our house as he always does and he said, dr office won’t let anyone in except, chemo, radiation and patients like him inside the door. He is no longer going to church because he can’t take any chances.

At this point, naively I guess, it has dawned on me, this aint no joke. I quit going to the gym and only going to store or anywhere if I have to. I can walk the neighborhood. I have made this choice because of my father. I don’t want to be that person that has no symptoms and then gives it to my dad.
