Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Yeah... next year we should cancel everything for the flu. Covid as of today was confirmed in 5711 Americans. The latest numbers say that 94 have died. That number is still skewed by the initial nursing home deaths in Washington that could have just as easily happened if the flu had infected the same places. EVEN SO... the US mortality rate as of today is 1.6%. That rate will likely continue to drop as more accurate and representative numbers accumulate.

Meanwhile, in a "great" year... only about 22,000 people have died of the flu. Last year it was over 60,000 and over 70,000 the year before that. Roughly 7% of all US deaths are from the flu and associated pneumonia.

Not saying Covid is being overblown or anything... well, no, I guess I am.
There are about 70k ICU beds in the US most of which already have someone in them. The point of it all is to avoid the hospitals not having enough beds to treat the older people that will get it and most likely have to be hospitalized if it spreads at the rate it has so far...additionally to avoid the hospitals being so overrun that they don’t have room for someone with a heart attack or someone having a baby. I have a hard time understanding how people actually think we would put billions and billions of dollars in the trash for no reason other than “the news made it happen”

How long before we see a significant rise in domestic violence? You’ll have men at home with a cabinet full of liquor..... plenty of ammo for their guns..... kids running through the house raising hell.... the deadbeat brother in law living with them ..... it’s the perfect recipe
I was just thinking, we are either in for a huge boom in births in about 9 months from now or divorce lawyers are about to be super busy

No more so than the gaps in the assumptions you and others make. But again, for all you know it was Dr. Faucci but you assume not. I’m happy this subject interests you so. I’ve missed our little chats.

Maybe you have me confused with some guy on FOX who sounded a little like me.

If we only had some sunshine....

We have been sunny and in the 80s on the coast...I'm off tomorrow was gonna take my son to a matinee but AMC and Regal both closed till further notice.. guess I'll drive down to a barrier island and collect some driftwood for art projects..wish I could bottle our heat and humidity to send to affected areas

Thanks for these. I made the point the other day our mortality rate will be different compared to other countries. Looks like Germany and Switzerland are doing very well compared to others.
1,500 new cases today though. That's s going to start to overwhelm Germany's healthcare system.

I might as well live in Seattle, WA.....it continues to be rainy here w/overcast skies on the constant.
Grass growing is getting out of hand.....I'll hire somebody to do it because it's too tall for me to do it when wet.
