I've hesitated to wade in on this, and will do so only on the hopes that it might genuinely persuade some and possibly save lives. I imagine it will ruffle feathers, and some will lose respect for me but I'll go ahead because if I am out to just placate the crowd, I'm of no use.
In regard to the response of the Christian, or "church goer" continuing to attend public worship services, (church is a people, not a building)...
He (Jesus) answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” - Luke 10:27
I propose to you that when my "loving of God" is at odds with "loving my neighbor" there is a breakdown between understanding and application because the two should always be inextricably joined at the hip. We are all free to express our faith in this country so long as it does not infringe upon the freedoms of others. In my opinion, the attendance of public worship services at this time is not "loving your neighbor" as this will clearly increase the risk of spreading the virus. If you are looking for any type of scriptural reference regarding outbreaks, the Old Testament gives clear instructions to practice "social distancing" to stop the outbreak. There are no edifications to just drum up some more faith and carry on.
I am a man of faith and reason. If the practicing of my "great faith" puts my neighbor at risk, am I that much different than the religious extremist terrorist who is only concerned with how he is expressing his faith and does not consider how it will affect those whose lives he will destroy as he cries out "God is great!"? This is a strong statement that will offend many, but I urge you to consider it before you dismiss it.
Fortunately, the Corvid-19 virus has literally 0 affect on how I love God. My Sunday morning attendance denies me the fellowship of my brothers and sisters, but we will come together again soon enough. God doesn't live at your church or my church. You may feel an emotional tie to attending that collection of bricks, carpet and seating but God transcends all of that. As for my worship of God, I carry it with me wherever I am. As for loving others, for most of us, the best way we can do that is to physically be out of their presence. Give a call, video chat, pray over the phone, safely bring food to those who cannot get out... there are a lot of ways to love others, but in this season, it must be with caution, not stubbornness masked as faith.

Those are my thoughts in a quick sitting. Once again, my intent is not to condemn or inflame, but it's my current rambling thought on the matter.
If you hate what I've said, please save the reply and just write to me all of your hateful words at UlyseesE.McGill@gmail.com I'll be reading them all.
If FEMA can give checks to major and minor hurricane victims the this should be a system where they can help.
Hell, I'd threaten to tax the ish out of Jeff Bezos if he doesn't agree to provide relief funds.
Lol..I think dude misunderstands me..I agree with everything you said...I also believe that we can't shut the world down indefinitely without destroying peoples lives. I am all for doing what we can to mitigate it, but I am not for destroying millions of peoples lives.
From everything I have read and studied, this will get to you before a vaccine is available. The only question is when.
@coskramer be like #workingonthecureOne thing I have wondered...I know that methamphetamine is a super powerful bronchial dilator, and it also dries up fluids, not just in your lungs but in pretty much your whole body..
It makes me wonder if anybody has thought to use something like it in worst case scenarios of covid-19 infection?
I'm with you on your post. The fact is, we do not know anything about this virus. Church leaders do not know anything about this virus. All we can do is listen to those who do know something about this virus, and that is our governing authorities. We should follow their guidelines so that we can help protect one another. The OT quarantine example you used is a great one. God is sovereign, but He uses ordinary means to accomplish His purposes.Yeah, it's a very unfortunate situation we all have no choice but to walk through. It's impossible to know what "the best way" is to manage things. I respect those who are trying to make these tough calls.
Let's be careful here. I don't agree with many of the modern interpretations of the biblical teachings (prosperity theology really loses me) but there was a fascinating news piece written sometime back by a New York Times writer who originally came from northern Alabama where he had grown up in a church that followed the handling of serpents practices. He returned home from NYC after 20 years to write a critical story about the practice only to find himself drawn back to it so strongly that he ended up handling the snakes himself during a service. I never will understand basing so much on singular passages of the Bible and my interpretations, particularly of the teachings of Jesus, are liberal, but I admire the strength of the faith.

How in the heck in America do you allow the Constitution to be voided for two months. They have taken your right to assemble away. What’s next. 911 we declared a national emergency after losing over 3100 Americans in ONE day. It was removed in one week. Our President George Bush said it is a very dangerous road to suspend the Constitution for a long time and that’s why he was lifting it. Because we were still not safe but you can not give up freedom just to be safe. The founders risked everything for freedom including their lives but we give ours up so easily.
TWHS?Driving down the road, there was a conversion van with the little round window near the back and seriously 70's looking curtains blocking the rear windows. There was a small rear window sticker that read "Boobies".
Naturally, I assume this is a human trafficking van and there will be some 48 year old with a scruffy beard, hair that hadn't been washed in 3 weeks, PBR tattoo and a cigarette hanging off of his lip.
Turns out it was a blonde woman and I have no idea what to do with that, lol
For real. Nurses and doctors always have jobs. People always need them.My wife is the Director of Case Mgmt. at our local hospital. A few minutes ago she had to give up one of her case workers to serve as a nurse on the floor indefinitely and she said they are going to take another one by tomorrow if not sooner. This just makes my wife's job that much tougher right now. There is a huge shortage of nurses in most hospitals as it is without this added to it. If I had a son or daughter who hadn't chosen a career path yet, I would encourage them best I could to consider something in the medical profession, especially nursing.

I am one of those people. This has already cost me and my wife personally 2 days of work due to cancellations. That is about 180 to 200$ in lost wages so far, and our companies have told us to expect a lot more of that. We barely scrape by when everything is going well.
That is not counting the thousands I have lost in inheritance money in the last week and a half because of the stupid stock market panic.
I may have told this story before. It happens. I’m old so it comes with the territory. Anyway, I think I was probably 20 or 21 at the time. Yes, this is a sea story from my navy days. So I’m on watch, nuclear powered fast attack submarine, engine room upper level. Among the other equipment and systems on my watch station are the evaporators, the equipment used for turning saltwater from the ocean into freshwater for various needs of the people and the systems onboard.
While making my rounds one hour I notice than we had some water running on the deck and it shouldn’t be there. I investigate and it turns out the isolation valve between the steam driven evaporator and the saltwater supply line coming from the hull of the submarine is leaking pretty significantly. This is called flooding.
I’m pretty close to maneuvering (engineering control room) so I casually walk over to the entrance and announce to the engineering officer of the watch and the others inside that we have flooding in the engine room upper level. All hell broke loose. I was somewhat amused. I had investigated and thought we could handle the problem but it’s my duty to report the problem before taking action just so I’m not the only one who knows there is an issue.
Anyway, we got it all fixed but there was a lot of consternation directed at me by everyone else because in my initial report I apparently hadn’t either been excited enough or panicked enough. I still think it was amusing the way everyone else reacted. I’m sure they did the right thing and I’m just odd like that.
So while we have this serious crisis going on right now with regards to the virus, which I may end up catching, and being old may have systems that can’t offer the most resistance, I still find the overall reaction a bit amusing. I told you I was a bit odd about stuff like this. jmo.
Clearly it’s a serious matter and I hope and pray that every one of you and yours stay safe but I just don’t think it really helps all that much for folks to run around as if their hair was on fire. jmo.
Seriously, be smart, be safe, and if I don’t make it through this crisis, for the record, I just want it known that after much research and analysis I have become convinced we will win the East this football season, or at least would have if we had survived. jmo.
