I do think it is a patently distractionary tactic by Trump and Fox to try to blame someone. I have seen on Fox over the last few days their reporters asking Republican members of Congress what punishment the Chinese should suffer for this. I'm not kidding. And it has been several times.

Its just a cheap effort to create someone to blame (other than Trump for his initially ambivalent response) when we have bigger problems on our hands.

It's ironic that you accuse this of being meant for distraction when your post was a blatant attempt to distract by mis-framing the question at hand. You quoted the people who showed all the times viruses are referred to by place of origin, and asking why the need to call this racist, and made the fallacious claim that they were saying that this one must be called by its place of origin.

That's a pretty clear and intellectually dishonest way to play the hand, lg.

No one is saying what it must be called. Some are pointing out the logical leap of race baiting.

It's a simple concept, everyone has been hearing the words "Corona Virus", and although not necessarily exact, it's the buzz word.. I'd stick with CV-19, personally.

If you want to mix it up in official announcements, you're not helping things.

My criticism is that he could and should have been encouraging people to engage in the tactics he now espouses, but he should have been doing so three weeks ago. Instead of downplaying it because he was worried how it was going to affect him if the stock market went down, he should have listened to the experts earlier and shut up on the minimization.

There is no way to quantify the effects of his demeanor or his words. But I cannot begin to tell you the number of texts I got from Trump supporting friends of mine, or posts I saw on Facebook, that for a solid three weeks echoed the nonsense Trump was saying. Hoax. Overblown. Exaggerated. Media frenzy. The flu is worse.

Heck, you can still see people clinging to that outmoded way of thinking about this within the last 20 posts itt.

This is funny as hell. You criticize Trump for "creating a target of resentment" and then spend every word after that accusation trying to set Trump up as a target of resentment.

Chances are there will be another virus originating in China. I guess we will have to say China Virus 2 Infective BoogieFlu... whatever though.

You're in the "you guys" that are inventing criticisms, as you are part of the chorus that is bellyaching about Trump's use of "Chinese Virus".

What's so complicated about that?

You stick to whatever floats your boat. Like I said, the longer you keep bitching about stuff like this, the more risk you run of numbing people to the legitimate complaints you may bring up.

I am less inclined to find fault for things like number of hospital beds available right now, etc.
