Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Might as well hope.

IMO what we are seeing is a bunch of elected officials playing one upsmanship trying to be seen as managing a crisis during an election year.
I dont know anyone who is more adept at turning public fear to their advantage than politicians. If anything, they will use this crisis to further solidify power.

Posted on my timeline today:

Just to give you an idea of how covid-19 spreads, this was on front page of today’s paper. If this can happen in a small city like Chattanooga, imagine in big cities.

The Rector at a church here in Chattanooga has been confirmed to have the covid-19 virus. He became ill after attending a conference Feb. 19-22 in St Louis. Not knowing he was ill, he led a family burial on the 22, and then officiated at a wedding the evening of the 22. On the 23, he led two morning services, serving communion and shaking hands with about 150 people in attendance, then was involved with a benefit concert for Metropolitan Ministries that same day with about 75 people in attendance. On Feb 25, he led a church staff meeting. On Feb 28, he led a memorial service for the Chattanooga Bar Association, a group of more than 800 local attorneys. On Mar 2, he led a communion service, joined a monthly Bible Study on Mar 3, where there were 30 people attending from three churches. (Thus far, he still didn’t realize he was ill). He got sick with what he thought was a cold and sinus infection. It developed into pneumonia on Mar 1. He sent an email out to church members on Mar 7 removing himself from church services that weekend. He tested positive for covid-19 right afterward.
This one person directly exposed around 1000 people. This virus is here in our area. They’ve closed schools, stopped programs at the library, stores have cut back hours, and the long term care facility where my Mom is, among others (and I’m thankful they’re taking this precaution). As you can see, people who were old, young, black, white, brown, fat, thin, Christian, nonChristian, short, tall, rich, poor, male, female, gay, straight, Democrat, and Republican were ALL exposed in our area and each person exposed has the potential to expose many more. Let’s treat this as what it is-a national health emergency and stop blaming “the other political party”. Let’s pray for our nation, leaders, healthcare workers, researchers, workers, children (many of whom will be hungry while not in school), members if the political party opposite our own, basically-LET’S PUT THIS IN GOD’s HANDS and PRAY FOR EACH OTHER!!!!!!!

I'm torn on all of this. I understand the need to protect the public at large. But the idea of forced quarantine and curfews for everyone, regardless if infected or not, does not sit well with me at all. It is a slippery slope.
I just don't like the idea of the government mandating this type of stuff. Not trying to be alarmist, but the words martial law are something I never want to hear.

Okay, back to posting memes and s*it posts.

I get it . Sometimes when I post something about the government , I think dang maybe I should have moved my tinfoil hat further away from my head . I then read how this governor says we need this and that mayor thinks we should do that , throw in some CDC advise along with some WHO articles and I’m like ..nope I’m good .

Curious, but is this bolded date a typo? Because he would of been giving service on March 2-3 with pneumonia.

You are making the same grade school error as most who are miscalculating the rates by treating active cases as if they were recovered.

I’m looking at calculations by epidemiologists willing to publish their numbers in academic journals and at the WHO estimates.

2020 is weird af. I'm a progressive, but first and foremost I'm a social libertarian. Government curfews, mandatory quarantine, deploying the military to "maintain public safety?" Yeah, I grew up around way too many hard core libertarians to go with that. They rubbed off on me over the years. Lol
