Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Sure... I'll buy that, after all I'm not an epidemiologist who was studying the thing months ago.

But I'm guessing the 20% of new infections that will have serious problems will be happy to know that it's highly improbable that the first case is only a couple of weeks old.

Make sure to tell everyone you potentially infect that because you didn't want to miss out on the buffet at Sizzler. It'll take some of the sting out.
Who is advocating for not taking precautions? Why do you continually argue with yourself?

Sounds like you've got a lot of cats.

Four. We keep trying to pare down, and they keep showing up and auditioning. Took what we thought was the last one in about four years ago - she looked like a kitten, the vet said about two, she's now 15 pounds. My wife's friend asked us to take the last one when she moved - she's a little different from our other cats; maybe because she keeps looking for a glass of beer, and we don't drink beer.

I've seen a few, mostly younger people lately, that were like Pat. I honestly wasn't sure what sex they were. I wonder what they looked like at 5 or 6 or 8 years old, because it seems like they want to look androgynous.

I want even mention to you what I saw one day at Kroger in the checkout line. It's hard to describe it.

We have four as well, all rescues or strays, all of our pet animals but two were rescues.

The oldest is a Havana Brown that I thought was a small fortune, but by the time you get strays neutered, spayed, checked out and shots, they aren't a lot less, but they are really happy to have a home. The other one tried to take on an SUV in front of my wife - wife took her to the vet figuring she would be euthanized - she's a tough little cat - rules the household ... like having a second wife to tell you what needs to be done.

I stocked up on supplies weeks ago. I'm a prepper by nature, because I understand in most situations the event isn't the real threat. It's the reaction of the public that is. I have a month of food and an endless supply of water. I can avoid people if I need to. But at this point all I really need to do is wash my hands, avoid large scale events etc. Be smart, not kneejerk or chicken little. There is a happy medium.

You 2 are amateurs. My wife takes in all strays. We have more than both of you put together.
LOL we have 22 "pets", between the fish, the reptiles, dogs and cats. Not to mention the livestock. I love it though, I prefer the company of animals to people. Animals are less complicated.

Not saying they are wrong or right, but just my current opinion on the mandatory closings by state and local governments...somebody in government knows how to do exponential math.

When the scientist are saying it’s a problem, and business leaders are too, then yes it’s a problem. And not a minor one.

Have to break down and go to the grocery tomorrow. Sam's and Costco do pretty well on deliveries, so I'm considering doing that for some stuff that I'd normally go there for. Our Publix is normally pretty quiet and uncrowded, but I haven't been since things have gotten crazy, so it'll be interesting. I might have caused a run on peppermint ice cream a couple of months ago if it had been crazy season ... it was BOGO and the six on the shelf looked like they needed a home.

I'm stumping to pay our FoH staff to the owners tomorrow as I believe Tennessee will be joining this list in the next few days (because of Nashville).

I'm prepared to quit if they refuse as a lot of Knoxville owners are willing to do it and if you're unwilling to pay them a wage or offer them insurance, then you can at least cover their asses when this **** hits the fan.

I partially agree, but they are getting very reactionary lately. I was at Three Mile Island during the accident. The governor of PA and his advisers were clowns. The nuclear industry learned a lot about handling the press from that. In my years before retirement we did a lot of drills, I spent a lot of time in the Emergency Response Center - one big focal point there was coordination; my job was condensing info coming in from the plants for releases to outside agencies and the press - also coordinating requests for outside assistance. My main comment about government response would be twofold. First, it appears too often that they are doing something to look like they are doing something rather than simply helping those who can do do what they should be doing. Second, they appear way behind the curve on knowing how to handle the press and keep the public informed - the spokesmen are poor and don't come across as competent. Trump is probably the worst - his speaking style is more suited to hawking snake oil than portraying a guy running a country.

Much nicer than what I have to work with. Some building materials actually are better than the ones used a hundred years ago. I have a feeling that my "new" house is worth less than the sum of the parts. For instance the interior walls are 1x6 in oak boards nailed to oak studs. You can put a picture or whatever anywhere ... if you can get a screw or nail into the oak.
