Prolly some of both..... The more people exposed creates more vectors for transmission. More transmissions mean more active illnesses. More illnesses mean more people getting tested.

The first American case likely is months old at this point. Most people who contract this virus exhibit mild cold like symptoms. It's the other 20% who develop more serious symptoms. With all the travel and commerce we have with China it would be highly improbable the first case in America is only a couple of weeks old, it likely wasn't discovered.

China figured it out way too quickly. They knew what they were dealing with right away which just reinforces the idea that it’s a bioweapon. They knew it got out.
