Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Italy daily update:

24,747 cases (+ 3,590)
1,809 deaths (+368)

Even during China's peak they never had a day with 300+ deaths.

Seems a bit cavalier to me, that some people believe that carrying on as everything is normal doesn't increase the likelihood that hospitals will find themselves over capacity and overstaffed.
Over capacity due to panic. By all means post another chart. Scare some more folks

The travel ban to China was a good idea, had we then taken advantage of the time it bought us.

Trump didn't.

In fact, just two weeks ago Trump called criticism of the administration's response the "new hoax" and minimized it, saying it was like the common flu. In fact saying the flu was worse, a theme I hear from Trump slurpers to this very hour.

Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. You know that, right? Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa, they can’t even count. No they can’t. They can’t count their votes.
One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over, they’ve been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax. But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We’re 15 people [cases of coronavirus infection] in this massive country. And because of the fact that we went early, we went early, we could have had a lot more than that.
So a number that nobody heard of that I heard of recently and I was shocked to hear it, 35,000 people on average die each year from the flu. Did anyone know that? 35,000. That’s a lot of people. It could go to 100,000, it could be 27,000, they say usually a minimum of 27, it goes up to 100,000 people a year who die, and so far we have lost nobody to coronavirus in the United States. Nobody. And it doesn’t mean we won’t, and we are totally prepared, it doesn’t mean we won’t. But think of it. You hear 35 and 40,000 people, and we’ve lost nobody, and you wonder, the press is in hysteria mode.

So every time you slurpers quote Trump patting himself for the China travel ban, or worse, you give him credit for it yourselves, I will remind you what he did with the time that created.

The problem with everyone saying this isnt the Flu, it’s much worse...is that while true, it’s still not bad. It kills more older people than the flu, true, but it isn’t the plague many are making it out to be. For the majority of the population that 30x deadlier than the flu number still represents a fraction of 1%. This thing targets older people with underlying conditions which the Flu does as well. Nobody wants to put people unnecessarily at risk, of course, but let’s not accomplish that by fear peddling.

I’m on the boat that social distancing is good, better hygiene is good, and even closing mass gatherings is good. I’m on board with “flattening the curve”.

However, the panic isn’t good. Buying stuff until shelves are empty isnt good. The media hyping this to something it isn’t is bad. The politicizing of this isnt good.

Stay home if you don’t feel safe. Keep your kids out of school if you don’t feel safe. This is a free country. But, the media and chicken little types spreading fear and political discontent is borderline yelling fire in a movie theater.

We’re going to be fine.
So being left with fibrosis in your lungs isnt bad? Also the flu shows symptoms rather quickly. This virus can be in your system up to 2 weeks before you show symptoms and by then it's too late. Also if you think this isnt bad look at Italy they did nothing and now their hospitals are being overrun and doctors are having to pick and choose who lives and dies. Would you want to be in that position? What if a doctor came to you and said sorry you're moms to old we aren't going to try and save her, I bet you'd be pretty pissed. So how about next time think before you type

WOW-today is 3/15/2020, you expertise with the subject will be known to the entire world if by 5 april 2020 we (The United States) have 2000 dead-if not, I'll bet you come off with something akin to "we would have had that many if it wasn't for all we did...…"
The reason the cases seem to climb is simple, as more and more testing is done, we find more and more people with the Chinese woohoo virus, the vast majority may have gotten what felt like the 24 hour bug, and feel fine, didn't even know they had the virus. We shall know by 5 April if I'm correct or not.
Derp.
No I won’t be saying it’s because we acted. I’ll be glad it was nowhere near what it could have been and won’t give 2 ***** as to why it wasn’t more deadly.
Here’s too hoping you’re absolutely correct and this was all a big waste of time.

The top idiot declared it a national emergency.
Seriously... whatever your politics are at this point you’ve got to realize that this weird, dismissive macho attitude some have toward covid-19 is useless.

I hope we’re able to look back in a couple of months and consider this an overreaction, but it’s per clear that a big response is needed.

WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin: There Will Be ‘Less Democrat’ Coronavirus Deaths

Sunday on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Washington Post opinion writer Jennifer Rubin argued there would be fewer Democrat coronavirus deaths because they are adhering to suggestions offered by experts and the media.

“[T]here is a particular cruelty, irony that it is their core viewers, the Republican older viewers, who are the most at risk,” she said. “And when you think about it, which party immediately canceled all of their rallies? Which party immediately started having their political figures really portray and use their lives as an example? It was the Democrats. So typically, there will be less Democrat deaths because there will be less mass gatherings. There will be less opportunities for people to congregate and share this horrible disease. So it is really a very short-sided strategy. But I think now the name of the game is how do they get back on planet earth. And part of the way that I think that they are doing it is down the memory hole. He jumped right on this right away because of all this planning that we’re doing so well, which is head-spinning for the rest of us who watched him for weeks say this is a hoax. But this is how they do it at Fox News.

Good news! He'll be around to lead the next round of House impeachment hearings of Mr. "not responsible at all" Trump.

So I guess your in the camp that we should panic and go crazy? What are you saying here?

Read what I said again...take measures to flatten the curve, but we don’t need to panic. The CDC is saying social distancing, washing hands, etc. It says nowhere we need to hoard TP and clear shelves of food and essentials. If you think panic and chaos should be a part of the solution then you are part of the problem.

Perhaps you should read and then respond before just typing away.

You probably remember the 1966 BAMA UT game. It was the first time I ever saw Tennessee play. The FG was good by the way.
(I guess I did get a little further away from home than Nashville)
Funny story about that field goal. The kicker became a friend of mine since we sat next to each other in Spanish Lab , and I helped him somewhat. He had wrecked his knee in Spring practice before the 67 season, and had surgery. He was on crutches during Fall of 67. That is when Karl Kremser took over kicking duties. In the Spring of 68, Gary Wright and I practiced kicking field goals and playing golf with Herman "Thunderfoot" Weaver. I was a much better golfer than those two.

I held for Wright (and also kicked some) as he practiced for a tryout with the Cleveland Browns to replace Lou "The Toe" Groza. In those days, college kicked field goals off a tee. In the pros, you had to kick off the ground. He was learning to kick off the ground. Wright went on to become a pharmacist, and owned Wright Pharmacy in Heflin Alabama. He recently retired.

As the dems could care less about the Constitution, I guess I'm glad their chief loser will be back. I just hope those that lied to the FISA court are brought to Justice! The law should apply to all.

It can be a problem with the availability of 24 hours "news". People turn it on and leave it going all day. They get panicked because they don't realize they need to shut off endless bad news and take a break from it. So they make another trip to the store even though they did it yesterday, and buy more crap because the news is still saying bad stuff. Then when they get up the next day, they repeat the same process.

If people would shut off the tv for a day or two(especially under these circumstances) and read, go outside to do some yardwork or for a walk, clean the house, do something productive to get their mind off stress and anxiety they'll find they can approach life with a calmer clearer head.

Stoking irrational fear will, IMO, prove to be more detrimental than the virus itself. Everyone should take guarded measures to protect themselves, but be prudent about it. Buying enough paper products to flatten the Amazon Rainforest is, to put it bluntly, stupid!

There is no comprehensible reason that anyone should need 100+ rolls of toilet paper. Period. People should be concerned with storing shelf-stable, non-perishable food items, you know, something that is needed to sustain life. Who needs toilet paper when they’re not eating?
